LOOK: Michigan basketball congratulates Jordan Poole on winning NBA Finals with Golden State Warriors
In 2018, Jordan Poole hit an important shot in the NCAA Tournament as Michigan made a run to the national championship. Four years later, he played an integral role in helping the Golden State Warriors win a title.
Michigan basketball’s Twitter page shouted Poole out after the Warriors defeated the Boston Celtics 103-90 in Game 6 of the NBA Finals Thursday night. He had 15 points in the effort as Golden State won its fourth title in the last eight years.
Poole was an All-NBA G-League selection last year with the Santa Cruz Warriors, but burst onto the scene with Golden State this season. He averaged 18.5 points and 4.0 assists to help the Warriors to a 53-29 record en route to the title.
Golden State drafted Poole No. 28 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft, and he played in the G-League for the first few years of his career. But he came up to the big club this year and turned in some big performances, including a 38-point outburst against the Phoenix Suns in March.
At Michigan, Poole averaged 9.4 points per game over his two years, but turned in a big year as a sophomore in 2019. He averaged 12.8 points per game on 43.6% shooting, including 36.9% from three-point territory. But he might be best remembered for his game-winning shot against Houston during the NCAA Tournament when Michigan made it to the national championship game. The Wolverines defeated Loyola Chicago in the Final Four before eventually falling to Villanova in the title game.
Now, four years later, Poole got his ring. Stephen Curry won the NBA Finals MVP award after a monster performance in Game 6. He scored 34 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished seven assists en route to his fourth ring — and, finally, his first Finals MVP.
