Mike Williams had a big summer on the UAA Next Circuit with his Team Thrill program. The 6-foot-2 guard averaged 16.4 points while shooting 37.0 percent from three.

The Cumberland (MD) Bishop Walsh three-star has taken senior year official visits to DePaul, Wake Forest, Clemson, Syracuse, and is at LSU this weekend.

With all five visits under his, and his recruitment winding down, let’s go through what we know about Williams’ recruitment as of Sunday morning.

Williams recruitment

Mike Williams, the player, has been hiding in somewhat plain sight. He played his high school ball with Bishop Walsh (MD), who participates in the NIBC, and he played his travel ball this year with Team Thrill, a program that made it to the UAA Next Circuit finals.

Williams is an aggressive, downhill guard. He can defend the point of attack or the passing lanes, and he can create his own offense in the half-court or full-court setting. He scored 0.951 points per possession in transition for Team Thrill this summer. This opened the eyes of a good number of high-major college programs.

Williams spent September and early October taking official visits, culminating with his official to LSU this current weekend. Intel suggests that the Tigers are one to watch with this one. Sources close to the recruitment say the staff has done a good job selling Williams on the possibility of earning early playing time.

Clemson is the other program sources say to watch. They were Williams’ first senior year official visit, September 2, and they have shown Williams the development of guards and the freedom Brad Brownell gives the guards if he trusts them. Clemson will also have guards Alex Hemenway and Brevin Galloway, who are seniors this year.

LSU will have Justice Hill and Trae Hannibal, who are seniors this year. They also currently do not have another guard signed in the 2023 class, and they signed no guards in last year’s high school class.

Wake Forest is hard after another guard in the 2023 class. Syracuse still has not signed a player in the 2023 high school class. DePaul does not have a guard signed in their 2023 high school class, but they signed four-star Zion Cruz in 2022.

A commitment date has not been set yet, but sources close to the recruitment tell me one might be coming sooner rather than later. We all know situations in recruiting can change at a moment’s notice, but as things stand now, sources suggest there is confidence coming from both the LSU and Clemson programs.

As of pressing ‘publish’ on this piece, intel recommends watching LSU, but stay tuned with how things progress over the next couple of days.
