Cowboys tight end Dalton Schultz will “avoid missing significant time” after MRI results confirmed Monday that he suffered a right PCL injury, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Although Schultz’s status is still in question for Week 3 against the Giants, that is certainly good news for a Dallas team that is already missing quarterback Dak Prescott. Schultz suffered the injury late in the Cowboys’ 20-17 victory against Cincinnati on Sunday.

Dalton Schultz was mostly quiet prior to his injury, recording just two catches for 18 yards against the Bengals. But coming off a career-high 808 yards and eight touchdowns in 2021 and receiving a franchise tag this offseason, he is crucial part of this offense going forward.

Behind Schultz, Dallas has a pair of rookie tight ends Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot. Neither player has recorded a catch through the first two games of the season, but could be thrust into action should Schultz be forced to sit Monday night.

The Cowboys and Giants are scheduled to kick off at 7:15 p.m. CT on Monday in New York.

Cowboys receiver Michael Gallup could return Week 3

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly hopeful that wide receiver Michael Gallup will return to game action for their Week 3 matchup against the New York Giants. Gallup tore his ACL in January at the end of last season and has been working towards a return to action as the expected No. 2 receiver in the Cowboys offense.

“Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup (ACL) is trending toward a return next Monday at Giants. ‘We’re going to try to give him a full slate this week’ in practice, coach Mike McCarthy said. Whenever Gallup makes season debut, he is not expected to see his usual workload off the bat,” detailed Dallas Morning News‘ Michael Gehlken.

The news is a major relief to Dallas fans and the banged up Cowboys offense, as Gallup will help spread the field for CeeDee Lamb. The Cowboys offense struggled in Week 1 against Tampa Bay prior to Dak Prescott‘s injury, failing to score a touchdown in the season opener. Last week, Cooper Rush led the Cowboys to two-straight touchdown drives to start the game with a huge lift from Noah Brown — who scored his first career touchdown in the win over Cincinnati.
