The Dolphins have traded star wide receiver DeVante Parker to the Patriots. On Saturday, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport announced the news that the former Louisville star was being traded inside the AFC East, from Miami to New England.

“Sources: The #Dolphins are trading WR DeVante Parker to the #Patriots in exchange for late-round draft pick compensation,” tweeted Rapoport. “Parker lands at a perfect place with stability he’s been wanting, while MIA gains financial flexibility.”

The Dolphins selected Parker with the No. 14 overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft. The star wide receiver was coming off a phenomenal college career with Louisville, catching 33 touchdowns over four seasons. However, he was never able to match his immense potential in Miami.

In seven seasons with Miami, Parker amassed 338 receptions for 4,727 receiving yards and 24 touchdowns over 93 games. Injuries and inconsistent quarterback play severely hindered Parker every time it looked like he was about to break out.

Moreover, Adam Schefter of ESPN revealed the terms of the trade involving Parker and the two AFC East rivals.

“Trade terms, per source: Patriots get WR DeVante Parker and a 2022 5th-round pick. Dolphins get a 2023 third-round pick,” tweeted Schefter.

The Patriots are in need of wide receiver help, and they’re getting former Alabama quarterback Mac Jones a good one. As you can see New England believes there’s untapped potential within DeVante Parker. Now, it’s up to the Patriots to bring it out.

Furthermore, the decision to move DeVante Parker comes in the wake of the Dolphins trading for star wide receiver Tyreek Hill. In one of the most unexpected moves of the NFL offseason, the Kansas City Chiefs decided to trade Hill to Miami in a move that rocked the football world to it’s core.

Afterwards, Parker was thought to create an exciting receiving corps with Hill and former Alabama star Jaylen Waddle. Now, the former Louisville star will be attempting to prove his old team wrong for trading him away.

Time will tell who makes out better in the deal, but some may say trading DeVante Parker within the division — to none other than the Patriots — could prove costly for Miami.
