On Sunday night, Odell Beckham Jr.‘s lawyer released a statement describing the NFL star’s side of the incident that led to his removal from a flight to L.A. The initial reports of the incident, including the Miami-Dade PD’s, stated that officers arrived for a medical emergency.

The free-agent wide receiver was leaving Miami when he fell asleep as he waiting for his plane to take off. However, he covered his head with a blanket and forgot to buckle his seatbelt before falling into a slumber.

Daniel Davilier, via Ian Rapoport, recounted how a flight attendant woke Beckham up on the plane to inform him that his (delayed) flight would not have him on it and they were returning to the gate to remove him.

“Never in my life have I experienced what just happened to me… I’ve seen it all..,” Beckham tweeted on Sunday morning. He also added, “I COULD NEVER MAKE THIS UP.”

“That incident was unnecessary,” Davilier wrote. “Sleeping on a plane should not be a cause for removal from a flight. If they could wake him up when the flight returned to the gate, then they could have done the same thing to ask him to put on his seatbelt.”

Beckham’s recounting of the story places the blame on the flight attendant’s “overzealousness.” Davilier claims that the former Giants star complied with requirements and that he was not “disruptive or combative.”

“The flight attendant wanted to prove that he had the authority to have Mr. Beckham removed from the flight,” Davilier wrote.

Beckham deals with plane drama ahead of visits

Beckham has a busy slate of visits following the Thanksgiving holiday. Beckham plans to visit the Giants on Thursday and Friday, sources told Rapoport. After the weekend, Beckham has a meeting with Dallas on Dec. 5. He is also visiting the Buffalo Bills.

In 12 total games for the Rams (regular season and playoffs), Beckham hauled in 48 catches for 593 yards and scored 7 touchdowns, second only to Cooper Kupp during that time.

Beckham is one of the uttered names in the league right now due to his current free-agent status. The former No. 12 overall pick and two-time All-Pro receiver won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams last year but hit free agency after suffering a torn ACL.
