Lafayette (La.) St. Thomas More four-star quarterback and LSU commit Walker Howard had some extra fans Friday in the form of Ole Miss offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jeff Lebby.

Howard is playing in a state playoff game against Thibodaux (La.) E.D. White.

The Rebels jumped in on the recruiting action for Howard after it was announced that Ed Oregron would be returning for the 2022 football season.

Ole Miss, along with Notre Dame, have been the two main schools working to try and flip Howard during this time.

Howard visited the Fighting Irish the weekend after the Oregron news was announced. The visit was planned before the announcement, as the Notre Dame never stopped pursuing the quarterback.

The Fighting Irish has one quarterback in its 2022 class already in Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic consensus four-star Steve Angeli. Ole Miss does not have a quarterback commit.

Walker Howard is the No. 35 overall recruit in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Howard got his team on the scoreboard first with a 36-yard screen pass touchdown in the second quarter to put St. Thomas More up 7-0.

Walker Howard is a wanted commodity

Howard and Draper (Utah) Canyon Corner quarterback Devin Brown were both in similar boats for most of the season. Brown, who originally committed to USC in September 2020, faced many flip campaigns from coaches across the country after Clay Helton was fired.

Brown went on visits like Howard and stayed committed to the Trojans for weeks. But just this week, Brown elected to decommit from the school.

Two schools, Ole Miss and Notre Dame, have been trying to flip both Brown and Howard.

It remains to be scene whether Howard will do as Brown did and decommit and follow through on his first commitment. While he is more likely to stay firm to his commitment to the Tigers, there is still plenty of time left in the year.
