On3 has released the latest update of its basketball prospect rankings for the 2022 cycle. This rankings release is the second-to-last update in the 2022 cycle. This update is heavily impacted by senior season evaluations prior to the end-of-season all-star games.

This update is also an expansion from the On3 Top 100 to the On3 Top 150. On3 heavily prioritizes the senior season in our evaluation process, as it has proven to be among the more predictive evaluation points over the course of a high school prospect’s development.

Updated 2022 On3 Top 150

The basketball player rankings scale is as follows: Five-star prospects have grades 98-100, four-star recruits have grades 90-97, while 80-89 grades are for three-stars.

The first 20 prospects are five stars with a rating of 98 or higher. The rankings for current cycles will be updated on a regular schedule throughout the year.

Our goal is to assess a prospect’s long-term potential in college basketball, ultimately manifested by the NBA draft.

Let’s get into some of the storylines surrounding the On3 Top 150.

Tight race for No. 1

The 2022 cycle will be one for the record books. That is because of how many highly ranked prospects reclassified to 2021. Three players that were battling for the No. 1 spot are already on college campuses in Emoni Bates, Shaeden Sharpe and Jalen Duren.

The higher number of reclassifications, opened the door for senior risers to make bigger jumps than usual. And that is certainly the case with Duke signee Kyle Filipowski and Texas signee Dillon Mitchell. Both jumped Derek Lively in the update Top 150 with very strong senior campaigns.

Filipowski will head to college the most ready-made player of the three with a near-complete offensive game. His ability to play over either shoulder in the post, stretch the floor, put the ball on the floor and make the correct pass will instantly impact the Duke offense in the halfcourt.

Mitchell – who is now No. 2 in the ranking – is the best run and jump and jump again athlete in the class. He’s a difference-maker on the defensive end with the ability to block and contest shots, along with defending multiple positions. That has been known for a while. Where Mitchell has ascended is with an improved feel for the game. He’s become a quicker reader of cutting and scoring opportunities in the halfcourt. His perimeter game continues to improve. Mitchell is a player On3 believes will be an NBA lottery pick after one season, or possibly two.

New 5-stars added

Nine prospects added their fifth star in this second-to-last update for the 2022 cycle. The list is headlined by new No. 1 Kyle Filipowski. The Duke signee has arguably put together as impressive of a senior season as any in the cycle. The 6-foot-11 power forward has displayed a near-complete offensive game as a senior with the ability to play over either shoulder in the post, stretch the floor, handle the ball on the perimeter against pressure and has sneaky court vision.

Big movers highlight On3 expanded rankings

A number of prospects made ascending moves in the updated prospect rankings. One of those is Richardson (Texas) High shooting guard Rylan Griffen. The Alabama signee plays alongside On3 Consensus five-star combo guard Cason Wallace for one of the top-ranked high school teams in the country. Griffen has become a much more physical player as a senior. The 6-foot-5 athletic guard has flashed his upside this season with an array of standout performances on both ends of the floor. Griffen has always been a scorer on the perimeter but has added vastly improved physicality playing through contact this season. Defensively, he’s gone from a long defender that can guard the ball to a player with a tougher mindset on a trip-to-trip basis. Griffen moves up to No. 37 from 99.

New entrants into final On3 Top 150

With the On3 rankings expanding from a top 100 to 150, there will be a high number of new entrants to the list. The expanded ranking along with senior year evaluations and more international prospects appearing on the radar equaled 57 new entries in the prospect rankings.

Adrame Diongue of Scottsdale (Ariz.) Compass Prep headlines the list. The near 7-footer was a known rim protector and rim runner headed into his senior season. His final year in the high school ranks has seen his game expand on both ends of the floor. On the offensive end, Diongue has improved screening in the half court with an improved feel for timing, along with improved touch around the basket and ability to take a bump and make a play with improved balance. Defensively, Diongue is becoming more than a shot-blocker with quick reactions as a help defender. Diongue is one of the top unsigned prospects in the class. He recently released a top eight ahead of spring official visits.
