Los Alamitos (Calif.) four-star defensive lineman T.A. Cunningham told On3’s Chad Simmons on April 5 that Miami, Penn State and Texas A&M are a few of the schools standing out to him. According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, the Hurricanes now have a commanding lead for his commitment.

Miami’s odds to land Cunningham are now 76.1% following an expert prediction from On3’s Josh Newberg. The 6-foot-6.5, 275-pound defender last visited Coral Gables on April 14 for the Hurricanes’ spring game.

“Miami has made a huge impression on T.A. Cunningham after bringing him to campus twice this spring — once for the Canes’ junior day March 4 and then again for the spring game Friday night,” Stephen Wagner of CaneSport said. “He said he wanted to return for a second spring unofficial visit to make sure the vibes he felt on his first visit weren’t a fluke, and he now feels ‘a genuine connection’ to Miami. Cunningham told CaneSport after his spring game visit he could see himself playing at Miami next season. The four-star is also expected to transfer to a Miami-area high school next year.”

Head coach Mario Cristobal is one reason for Cunningham’s interest in Miami. He is also close with defensive line coach Joe Salave’a and defensive ends coach Jason Taylor.

“They made me feel like family the second I got on campus,” Cunningham said to Simmons about his March 4 visit to Miami. “The environment, you can’t be mad in Miami. It’s a beautiful place to be, it’s a beautiful place to play, and really, it’s a great place to go and get developed. Coach Joe, I’ve got a great relationship with him. They’ve got Jason Taylor there, a Pro Bowler as defensive ends coach. I don’t see any reason why they can’t compete with anybody else in my recruitment.”

Cunningham would provide a big boost to Miami’s 2024 class

Cunningham would be a huge recruiting win for Cristobal and Co. this cycle. At the moment, Miami’s 2024 recruiting class ranks No. 47 in the 2024 On3 Industry Team Recruiting Rankings and No. 11 in the ACC.

The Hurricanes’ group contains four prospects. They are Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas four-star wide receiver Chance Robinson, Gray (Ga.) Jones County three-star quarterback Judd Anderson, Shreveport (La.) C.E. Byrd On3 three-star kicker Abram Murray and Baton Rouge (La.) Southern University Lab School cornerback Dylan Day.

Day is Miami’s most recent pledge, choosing the program earlier today. Meanwhile, Robinson committed to the Hurricanes after their spring game on April 14.

In addition to Cunningham, Miami is trending for multiple blue-chip targets on the RPM. They include Miami (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep four-star wide receiver Joshisa Trader and Miami Gardens (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna Prep four-star safety Zaquan Patterson.
