LAS VEGASKodi Decambra first visited Oregon a few years ago. He knew then that it was a place he’d love to play. The four-star safety felt the vibe in Eugene. He loved the energy. The program was going strong.

Now he is a part of the future under Dan Lanning.

“It is really like a dream coming true,” Decambra told On3. “Being able to play Autzen Stadium in front of the Duck Nation is so exciting. They have great fans, I love the energy, and I have been dreaming about this for a long time.”

Before heading to Eugene in December, the four-star safety is focused on winning another state title at Bishop Gorman. He and his teammates take pride in their defense and having Lanning lead the way at Oregon has him excited about the future.

“Coach Lanning is s defensive-minded head coach with a great resume. His defenses at Georgia were No. 1 in the country two of the last three years. He knows a lot about defense, he is all about energy, and I know he is very smart. Oregon is going to have a great defense under coach Lanning.”

Decambra sees more in Lanning than just a young, energetic head coach, with great knowledge.

“The first time I met coach Lanning, it was natural. He wasn’t like a robot. He was someone I was able to talk to, get to know, and it was all so easy. We are open with each other, I can talk to coach Lanning about anything, and I like that a lot.”

Decambra is only visiting Oregon moving forward

The never time the No. 248 prospect in the On3 Consensus gets to see Lanning may be late July. He could visit the weekend of June 25, but that is not set yet. The Oregon commit plans to get to two or three games in the fall, take his official visit after the season, and then sign with the Ducks in December.

“I am locked in all the way with Oregon. I am only visiting Oregon the rest of the way and I cannot wait to get back. The staff is like family there. It is all one big family and I love that.

“Most of the coaches are young, the energy is great, and it is a family environment.”

Outside of the family feel and Lanning being a defensive wizard, the overall fit was right for Decambra at Oregon.

“Oregon checked all the boxes for me,” Decambra said. “I am not just a football player. I am a student-athlete. Oregon checked the sports and academics boxes I was looking for.

“I know I found the best place for me.”
