On3 National Recruiting Analyst Sam Spiegelman and Scouting and Rankings Assistant Cody Bellaire were on hand for the OT7 South action. Let’s take a look at On3’s Top Performers from Day 1 of the tournament.

On3 MVP: LB Jonah Williams (2025)

Jonah Williams stood out in a fantastic way during Day 1 of the OT7 tournament. From a size and stature standpoint he is light years ahead of his peers amongst 2025 prospects. Williams has the size and growth potential to fill out and eventually walk down to linebacker at the next level. He lined up all over the field throughout the day taking snaps at safety, linebacker and even wide receiver. His movement skills shined as he was able to bat down passes as a deep half defender at safety and as an underneath defender at linebacker. We also got a glimpse of his ball skils as he had multiple catches at receiver and was able to pluck the ball away from his frame with ease. The biggest thing that stood out was his ability to cover sideline to sideline and close to the football. For someone with his size to trigger and close the gap on ball carriers and receivers as well as he does was extremely impressive which is why he is On3’s Day 1 MVP.

2. QB DJ Lagway – Florida

DJ Lagway had an excellent showing at the UA Dallas camp earlier in March and he doubled down on it with a tremendous performance on Saturday afternoon. The ball jumps out of his hand with such little effort. The Florida commit’s ability to drive the football into tight windows was on full display throughout the day. The processing and ability to move the chains was outstanding as he constantly put his team in position to score. He was able to show off the ability to throw with various arm angles hitting multiple quick hitters from a sidearm arm slot and an off-base lower half. Lagway had a few throws he wishes he could have back, but the arm talent was unmatched today as he continues to cement his place near the top of the 2024 quarterback rankings.

3. TE KJ Duff

KJ Duff was the most dominant receiver at the catch point at the entire event on Saturday afternoon. He was an unstoppable force when it came to 50-50 balls as no defender could prevent him from bringing down contested catches. With a frame that has limitless growth potential and impressive length, Duff’s ability to separate at the top of routes and use his length to pull in balls away from his frame was unguardable. He will need to develop a more diverse route tree at the next level, but has all the upside in the world from a size and athleticism standpoint.

4. WR Andrew Marsh (2025)

It took a couple of games for the Katy native to get rolling, but Andrew Marsh lit the whole field on fire to finish off the first day of competition. In the last game of the day, he brought down a Hail Mary in the final seconds to give his team the chance to win which was easily the best play of the day. Marsh is such a smooth mover when it comes to his route running. It looks like he is just gliding out there on the field and makes routing up defenders look effortless. He has strong hands and attacks the football consistently. Marsh showed he can win vertically with his top end speed, just needs to get to his top gear a bit quicker which will come with time as he physically develops and gets stronger in his lower half.

5. CB Christopher Spence (2025)

Christopher Spence is a gorgeous creature at the cornerback position with ridiculous length combined with impressive movement skills. He essentially took away an entire third of the field throughout today’s games. Possesses tremendous range and ability to play the ball in the air. Even if he gets out of phase off the line of scrimmage he is able to recover due to his long speed and still get his hand on the football. He also has the hip fluidity in order to open up and break on the ball when working downhill. Wanted to see more physicality from him at the line of scrimmage, but was easily one of the most dominant defenders throughout the event.

6. WR Braylon Burnside

One of the more physically developed prospects at the tournament, Braylon Burnside definitely looks the part of a Power 5 wide receiver. He is thickly built throughout his frame with quality length. He made a circus catch during the back half of the event where he elevated and flashed his ability to high point the football and managed to stay in bounds to secure the catch. His body control combined with his ability to get in and out of his breaks is rare for someone with his build. His highs were extremely high during the day and is definitely one of the few players at the event with a limitless ceiling.

7. WR Elijah Garrick

If there was a Mr. Consistent superlative for Saturday’s event, Elijah Garrick would have definitely deserved it. He put on a route running clinic throughout the day constantly working himself open. When EPS Blaze was looking to move the chains or score, it was Garrick who was there to answer the call. He is a natural pass catcher who displayed easy, soft hands and was consistently able to pluck the ball away from his frame. Showed some vertical ability as well as he was able to pull away from some defenders when working down the sideline and the seam.

8. CB Nigel Pringle (2025)

Easily the stickiest corner at the event on Saturday, Nigel Pringle was constantly in phase and was borderline harassing pass catchers all day it seemed like. His fluidity and ability to change direction are tremendous. It was almost as if he was running receivers routes for them as he was consistently finding himself within arm’s reach of every pass thrown his way. There were a few times where receivers ended up making a play or catching a pass where he was in coverage, but they were almost always being contested by Pringle and were by no means gimmies.

9. ATH Dre’lon Miller

The versatile athlete that is Dre’lon Miller was moving the chains as a wide receiver throughout the first day of OT7 South. He flashed some strong hands and a wide catch radius as he was constantly punishing opposing teams in the middle of the field. He has natural hands combined with a dense build who is so strong with the ball in his hands. Wish he was used more down the field and was able to show off his top end speed, but was a menace in the intermediate passing game all day.

10. WR Quanell Farrakhan Jr. (2025)

Quanell Farrakhan Jr. was terrific throughout the entire event on Saturday. He was able to make plays at all levels of the field and displayed some serious twitch and ability to get in and out of his breaks. The pass catcher out of The Woodlands was seemingly always open. His ability to separate in man coverage and find soft spots in zone were extremely impressive for someone his age. Wanted to see more at the catch point and on contested 50-50 balls, but was tremendous as a vertical weapon throughout the tournament.

Additional Notes

  • Quarterbacks Colin Hurley, Deuce Knight and Michael Hawkins all had some serious splash plays throughout the day on Saturday. Hurley, an LSU commit, was a consistent passer on the run all day long and showed some quality athleticism when escaping the pocket. Knight was surgical late in the day, excited to see how he performs on Sunday. Hawkins showed some juice on his passes and threw a terrific deep ball all day long.
  • Inside receivers that were making plays throughout the day were Deion Deblanc and Royal Capell as well as two-way star Boo Carter. Deblanc and Capell were constantly finding themselves open over the middle of the field and found the endzone multiple times during the first day of the tournament. Carter was able to get his hand on the ball at defensive back multiple times today and caught the ball well on the offensive side.
  • Big body pass catchers like Ivan Carreon and Davon Mitchell also showed some flashes throughout the day. Carreon was able to get in and out of his breaks with ease and showed off his wide catch radius on multiple occasions on Saturday. Mitchell showed off his ability to play above the rim and was a monster on 50-50 balls later in the afternoon.
