Las Vegas, Nevada – The 20th annual Pangos All-American Camp brought together some of the nation’s best players. The ultra talented group of around 100 prospects competed in front of NBA and national scouts over a three day period at Bishop Gorman High.

The Pangos All-American Camp has served as a coming out party for many top past and current high school All-Americans, as well as a showcase for many more national sleepers.

The 2022 camp was more of the same with many new names emerging on the national radar.

On3 was sitting baseline for the full three days walking away with a number of takeaways.

A.J. Johnson has speed to burn

2023 combo guard A.J. Johnson was the fast player at the camp with the basketball. The 6-foot-4 silky smooth guard is both quick and fast. It’s a long first and second step that causes defenders to instantly end up in a recovery position. And Johnson is playing well above the rim and exploding downhill. Not a player comparison, but an athletic comparison to Jaden Ivey is warranted.

Papa Kante ascending at the right time

On3 Consensus 4-star big man Papa Kante was one of the more impressive prospect at the event. The near 6-foot-10 center with long arms, broad shoulders and big hands impressed in a variety of ways. He was physical in the paint on both ends of the court. He fought for position on defense and rebounding. He played with an impressive motor. He switch in the ball screen game, and showed the feet to not give up straight line drives. And he can knock down the catch and shoot clean looks from three.

Kaden Cooper improving at a rapid rate

2023 guard/wing Kaden Cooper is improving at a rapid rate on the offensive end. He’s gone from a defensive stopper with elite athletic ability to a capable scorer in the half court. Transition is still where he thrives offensive. but his game is taking shape. North Carolina is the latest school to show interest. Cooper makes an official visit to Gonzaga June 24-26.

Elliot Cadeau is a true high riser

On3 Consensus No. 8 in the 2024 class Elliot Cadeau was arguably the best leaper at the loaded camp. The 6-foot strongly built point guard dunked the ball about every way you could imagine over the three days. That included in traffic against much bigger players. Cadeau comes from a very athletic family. His brother plays college tennis. The Texas Tech offer meant a lot to the Garden State point guard. He began watching college basketball seriously when the Red Raiders made the run to the National Championship game.

Chris Johnson is a true combo guard

On3 Consensus No. 28 Chris Johnson continues to prove he is a true combo guard. The 6-foot-4 Houston area prospect has the court vision of a point guard with the feel for making the correct read and accurate passes with required velocity. Ole Miss, Kansas, Arkansas, UConn and Texas are the schools to watch.

Mikey Williams showed the playmaking side

On3 Consensus No. 14 Mikey Williams made a number of really impressive reads, and delivered pocket passes with ideal timing over the three days. That was especially true the last two days. When Williams makes plays for others, his game goes to another level.

Sebastian Mack made it look smooth and easy

Rising senior guard Sebastian Mack made scoring the ball in traffic look easy. The 6-foot-3 guard is smooth with the ball when attacking with enough wiggle to keep defenders off balance. Mack can score from all three levels. Oklahoma is working to get Mack on campus this month. DePaul and Nebraska are also very much in the mix.

Wesley Yates took his game to another level

On3 Consensus No. 41 Wesley Yates may have taken not making the Top 30 Cream of the Crop game personally. The 6-foot-4 strong-bodied shooting guard put together the top performance of any prospect in either end of camp all-star game. He made a number of contest three-points on Tuesday, and with NBA range. Stanford is the favorite of Yates’ mother. Auburn is right there with the Cardinal. A push by Gonzaga would be bad new for Stanford. Arkansas could also make a push.

Isaiah Elohim plays through contact

On3 Consensus No. 5 in 2024 Isaiah Elohim plays through contact as well as any guard in the camp. The near 6-foot-5, 205-pound guard has strong legs and hips to power through defenders, along with the balance to finish through contact. That ability to play through contact also showed up in the mid-range game taking a slight bump, and still getting off clean looks. UCLA, USC and Texas were the three schools mentioned by Elohim.

Devin Royal makes winning plays on both ends

Forward Devin Royal will be a big mover in the next update of the On3 Top 150 June 13. The 6-foot-6 combo forward can defend multiple positions, and effect passing lanes with foot quickness and length. Royal is comfortable handling the ball against pressure, shooting out to 23-feet, and passing in the half-court. His long arms and broad shoulders allow him to play bigger, and that shows rebounding.

Credit to Marvel Allen for playing through injury

On3 Consensus No. 26 Marvel Allen was not close to 100% for the camp. It was obvious to anyone watching the 6-foot-4 strong-bodied guard was dealing with right knee soreness. Allen played through it, and made a number of plays setting up teammates for clean perimeter looks. Allen gets a big check in the competitive box from On3.

Pharaoh Compton will take your lunch money

Rising junior power forward Pharoah Compton was one of the pleasant surprises of the camp. It’s not pleasant to compete against him for rebounds, however. The 6-foot-7, 235-pounder with long arms was physical on contact, fought for position and looked to finish through the chest of defenders with dunks. Arizona State, Washington State and Texas A&M are the early offers headed into the live period.

Zayden High still a long ways from his ceiling

On3 Consensus 4-star forward Zayden High can still make a lot of strides to reach his potential. He plays a small forward game on offense on the perimeter, but can add more physicality and paint touches to the arsenal. He a more physical player on defense contesting shots than offense. When he marries the two, he goes to another level. Texas, Arkansas, Michigan, TCU and Houston are among those in contention.

Jason Asemota the best catch and shoot from three

On3 Top 25 No. 5 Jason Asemota was the best catch and shoot wing from three at the event. The shot is effortless, consistent and misses always look like they are going in. Up next for the 6-foot-8 small forward will be making gains off the bounce to make defending him even tougher. North Carolina and Oregon will receiving June visits. Baylor made a strong impression in May.

Kevin Patton Jr. is painfully under recruited

On3 walked away from Bishop Gorman High with the strong opinion that small forward Kevin Patton Jr. is among the most under recruited prospects in the 2023 class nationally. Santa Clara, Rice and Northern Arizona have offered, along with a lot of Ivy League interest. If the 6-foot-7 Patton doesn’t have Pac-12 offers by the end of July, we will be very surprised.

Sam Walters just needs to get stronger

Alabama commitment Sam Walters will be a very good stretch four for the Crimson Tide. His ability to help space the floor with three-point range is among the best at the position in the 2023 cycle. Once his body catches up with his shooting ability, Alabama will have a really tough player to defend. Walters just needs to add strength, and that takes time.

Robert Miller III will make big strides next season

On3 Top 25 No. 12 Robert Miller III is a versatile 6-foot-8 power forward that made the Pangos Top 60 all-star game with a high-end skill level. The next step for the prospect that is young for his class will be to match the physicality of bigger bodied players in the paint. Miller has the length and movement skills to be a plus rebounder. He just has to become more physical.
