Seattle Seahawks superstar receiver D.K. Metcalf was carted off the field in Sunday’s Seahawks-Chargers game. He was ruled out of the game after suffering a left knee injury. Unlike the last time Metcalf took the cart off the field, it was a more serious situation this time. Following the game, Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll told reporters that initial X-rays on Metcalf’s knee were negative, but that the standout will undergo further testing after the team returns to Seattle, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Metcalf was running toward the left-front corner of the endzone when he caught a pass and tweaked his left knee as he was coming down with the ball. Below is footage of the injury if you’d like to see how it happened.

So far this season, DK Metcalf has 30 receptions for 406 yards and two touchdowns. Last week versus the Cardinals, he had his least productive game of the year with just two catches on seven targets for 34 yards. The big-bodied wideout exited Sunday’s game with one catch for 12 yards.

This offseason, Metcalf signed a three-year, $72 million contract extension with the Seahawks. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that $58.2 million of the deal is guaranteed and his $30 million signing bonus was the highest ever for a wide receiver.

Metcalf emerged as a top target in Seattle after the Seahawks drafted him No. 64 overall in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Last season, he totaled 967 yards and a career-high 12 touchdowns. He sat out mandatory minicamp in the offseason due to contract disputes. Metcalf was “holding in” amid the contract talks, meaning he reported to camp but wasn’t participating.
