The Seattle Seahawks are exploring all their options with Russell Wilson on injured reserve. According to Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, Seattle has been in contact with veteran quarterback Cam Newton.

“Just so you know, we have talked to him. We’re talking to everybody that could help us,” Carroll said of Newton to Mike Salk of 710 ESPN.

Newton was cut by the New England Patriots prior to the beginning of the 2021 season. After being embroiled in a quarterback battle with rookie Mac Jones, the Patriots opted to go with the former Alabama star.

Last night, the Seahawks fell to the Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime. During the game, former Jets, Giants and Chargers quarterback Geno Smith was their signal caller. Although Smith played decent, the Seahawks lost due to a fumble that Smith couldn’t corral.

Wilson still has at least two more games to miss, and possibly more if he’s not healed up afterwards. If the Seahawks can’t figure out a way to win some games in his absence, their playoff chances might be gone by his return.

Newton: ‘Hell yeah, I still want to play football.’

Yesterday, Newton posted a video to his YouTube channel titled, “COVID-19 Vaccine & My Career.” In the video, the former Auburn star confirmed that he wants to continue playing in the NFL.

“Hell yeah, I still want to play football,” Newton said. “I have a message that I want to get out. I think the world has been on this judgement round, and I’m just calling people out for what it is. Here recently, just to clear the air, I got the vaccination. And prior to me getting the vaccination — and even after getting the vaccination — I just feel like it’s undue judgement for no reason.”

As you can see, Newton has quelled one of the concerns from the time of his release — vaccination status. Whether it was in an an effort to revive his football career or not, Newton clarified in the video that he has since received the vaccine.

Furthermore, Newton stated that he’s been getting offers. However, he’s waiting for the right situation to arise.

“I still get that urge to go out and perform and do something that I’ve been doing since I was seven years old,” Newton said. “I’m just waiting on the right opportunity. You’re probably thinking to yourself, ‘nobody wants Cam.’ That’s a lie. I’ve been getting offers. The realization of it is that is has to be right.”

Perhaps playing for Pete Carrol and an exciting Seahawks team could be the opportunity Cam Newton is waiting for. Barring an injury to a starting quarterback on a playoff team, this could be Newton’s shot.
