There is a lot on the line in the Philadelphia Eagles season finale against New York Giants. And with so much riding on the result of that game, the Eagles have announced that they will start quarterback Jalen Hurts on Sunday. Philadelphia’s starting quarterback was listed as questionable in the team’s final practice report on Friday and had been a limited participant during the week. Now the Eagles will hand the ball back over to Hurts in hopes of leaving Sunday’s game victorious.

Hurts injured his shoulder against the Chicago Bears in a 25-20 win. Hurts was 22-of-37 passing for 315 yards, two interceptions, 61 rushing yards, and three rushing touchdowns. On the season, Hurts has 3,472 yards, 22 touchdowns, five interceptions, a 67.3% completion percentage, 747 rushing yards, and 13 rushing touchdowns.

At stake for Philadelphia on Sunday is the number one seed for the NFC heading into the playoffs, along with the NFC East title. The Eagles would have solidified both had they picked up a win in either of their two previous games. Both of which Hurts missed. Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew started in place of the Eagles MVP candidate quarterback. Minshew had his best performance in Philadelphia’s first game against the Dallas Cowboys.

Against Dallas, he completed 24 of his 40 pass attempts for 355 yards, two interceptions, and accounted for three total touchdowns. Unfortunately, it was not enough, as Dallas was able to outlast Philadelphia winning 40-34. In the following game against the New Orleans Saints, Minshew struggled to find any rhythm, completing just eighteen of his 32 pass attempts with one touchdown and one interception. He was also sacked six times in the game.

Hurts and the Eagles’ opponent in their season finale is a familiar foe who is also playoff bound. The giants are locked in at the number six spot and will face the third seed in the opening Wildcard round of the playoffs. Should the Eagles fall to the Giants on Sunday, it could make them opponents in back-to-back games.
