Although head coach Mike Tomlin has yet to make a formal announcement regarding who will start at quarterback this weekend, the Pittsburgh Steelers have released its depth chart ahead of Sunday’s season opener.

Mitch Trubisky is listed as the QB1, while Mason Rudolph has surprisingly overtaken rookie first round draft pick Kenny Pickett as the second quarterback on the chart. Tomlin is expected to make the official announcement when he addresses the media Tuesday afternoon.

Trubisky’s first start is set for this Sunday against the Bengals in Cincinnati at 1 p.m. ET where he’ll look to make the most of his second chance at being a NFL starting quarterback. If he can’t produce, Rudolph and Pickett will be eagerly awaiting their name being called.

Pittsburgh Steelers name captains for the 2022 season

The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced their team captains for the 2022 season through social media. They are Mitchell TrubiskyNajee HarrisCam HeywardMiles Killebrew, and TJ Watt

Several of these selections make sense. TJ Watt is one of the best defensive players in football. Meanwhile, Najee Harris is expected to be a workhorse for the offense. For his part, Cam Heyward has been a long-term, veteran presence for Pittsburgh.

One selection, however, sticks out. That would be former North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.

It’s no surprise to see a quarterback be named team captain. However, Pittsburgh is in the middle of a quarterback competition. This could mean that the Steelers have made a decision on who they’re going to start this season at quarterback. He joined the team as a free agent this offseason.
