Pittsburgh Steelers complete second interview with in-house general manager candidate
The Pittsburgh Steelers have taken a slow, thorough approach in their search for a new general manager since Kevin Colbert decided to retire after the conclusion of the 2022 NFL Draft and more than two decades with the organization. The storied franchise announced yet another update to one of the most important decisions ownership has had to make in a long time.
On Thursday, the team announced in-house candidate Brandon Hunt had officially completed his second interview for the vacancy.
Hunt has been with the Steelers since 2010, and he also interviewed for the Raiders general manager opening this year. He’s also spoken with the Bills and Eagles for front office jobs during the Steelers search process.
Hunt joins vice president of football and business administration Omar Khan as internal candidates to succeed Colbert. Eagles vice president of player personnel Andy Weidl, Titans vice president of player personnel Ryan Cowden, Buccaneers vice president of player personnel John Spytek and former Bills G.M. Doug Whaley have also interviewed twice.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have also conducted a second-round interview with Eagles’ Andy Weidl, Tennessee Titans’ Ryan Cowden, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Jon Spytek and former Buffalo Bills GM Doug Whaley.
It feels like the search is narrowing now that the season is approaching and the draft is in the rearview mirror.
On Wednesday afternoon, the franchise completed a second-round interview for the empty position with Andy Weidl, the Eagles Vice President of Player Personnel, according to the team’s official Twitter account.
Weidl has played an integral role in helping piece together rosters that sent Philadelphia to the playoffs in three of the last four seasons, including two NFC East championships (2017 and 2019) and a 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

The Steelers have announced an exciting new addition to Heinz Field, as Pittsburgh is adding a Hall of Honor Museum to their stadium. The historic franchise is one of the best in the NFL at honoring their past greats, and the new feature will help continue that trend.
“The Steelers announced a new addition to Heinz Field that will further honor former players, coaches, and other contributors with the construction of the Steelers Hall of Honor Museum,” announced the franchise. “The museum is scheduled to open during the 2022 regular season.
“The museum will tell the detailed history of the Pittsburgh Steelers and feature the franchise’s best players, coaches, and front office personnel in the Hall of Honor.”
