The Pittsburgh Steelers are dealing with just a handful of injuries ahead of their week two matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders in a battle of 1-0 teams.

“Thankfully, it doesn’t appear that we have a lot of injury damage coming out of the game,” Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said during his weekly press conference on Tuesday. “There are some bumps and bruises associated with play, maybe a veteran guy or two who I’ll be minimizing at the early portions of the week. But you know we never spent a lot of time worrying about that.”

Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and star wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster were held out of practice due to coaches’ decision.

“One man’s misfortune or the taking care of a veteran player is a growth opportunity for young guys,” said Tomlin. “If we get into some of that, if I minimize Ben some on Wednesday, it’s a great day for Mason Rudolph, it’s a great day for Dwayne Haskins to get elevated and get snaps and grow as professionals so that they can prepare themselves to deliver when called upon. I just think that’s the essence of team. I thought it’d be appropriate to make that point when I talk about practice participation as we get into the rhythm of this thing.”

Two depth players for the Pittsburgh Steelers were limited with injuries. Linebacker Robert Spillane was dealing with the shin injury sustained during pregame warmups before the Steelers’ game against Buffalo, and ultimately missed the game. Defensive tackle Carlos Davis was limited with a knee injury

The Las Vegas Raiders, are dealing with a lot more injuries after their season opening win over the Baltimore Ravens. Guard Richie Icognito, running back Josh Jacobs, defensive end Carl Nassib, defensive tackle Gerald McCoy and quarterback Marcus Mariota all missed practice Wednesday.

The Pittsburgh Steelers opened their season with an impressive 23-16 win over the Buffalo Bills. Though Roethlisberger threw for just 188 yards and one touchdown, the Steelers defense handled business, sacking Bills quarterback Josh Allen three times and forced one turnover. After trailing 10-0 at halftime, the Pittsburgh Steelers rallied, scoring 20 straight points before the Bills scored again.

Star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and linebacker Devin Bush had ten tackles apiece. TJ Watt, coming off a contract extension that made him the highest paid defensive player in the league, had two sacks.
