With college basketball’s tip-off two weeks out, predictions and rankings are flooding in for the upcoming season. One of the bigger honors comes from the AP in the form of their Preseason All-American team. The AP released those selections today with some very familiar faces being chosen.

This preseason’s team is made up of four bigs amongst the five spots. Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe and Gonzaga’s Drew Timme were the unanimous selections for the team with this season fast approaching.

These selections from the AP reflect just how much the college game is changing around big men. Changes involving NIL and the NBA Draft have made it easier for the NCAA’s best bigs to remain in college. Having four among the five, with them all coming from different conferences, shows just where the sport’s focus will be this season.

The lone guard is Sasser, a senior for the Houston Cougars. After a left foot injury cut his 2021-2022 campaign short, he’s back to lead a Cougar team that the AP Poll ranked No. 3 in the nation coming into the season. It was a real disappointment considering he was averaging 17.7 points per game over his 12 games before he missed an Elite Eight run for Kelvin Sampson’s squad.

You will find these five names across almost every preseason prediction for the nation’s top players. They’re also all on teams that are within the AP’s Top-15 teams in the country coming into the year. In the end, all five should play a major role in how this upcoming season plays out and will hope to see their names on the AP’s All-American team come the end of the season as well.
