Pro Football Focus has released their Top 10 Quarterback Rankings for the 2023 NFL Draft.

The position arguably features the most controversial opinions of any in this year’s iteration of the NFL Draft. After the 2022 NFL Draft didn’t feature much debate regarding the position, as it was widely regarded as a weak group, this year’s group of signal callers has some of the best prospects in the entire pool of prospects.

Evidently, the Carolina Panthers believe it to be so, as they traded a haul of draft picks and star wide receiver DJ Moore to gain the first overall pick, and their choice of quarterback from the Chicago Bears. Luckily for every other team picking early in the draft, there’s more than one suitable thrower to be had, with options galore at their fingertips.

Everybody has their own opinion on the matter, but Pro Football Focus put their rankings out into the world over the weekend, and it sparked some serious debate. Here’s where they have each quarterback slotted.

Top 10 Quarterbacks in the 2023 NFL Draft, per Pro Football Focus:

  1. Bryce Young, Alabama Crimson Tide
  2. Will Levis, Kentucky Wildcats
  3. Anthony Richardson, Florida Gators
  4. CJ Stroud, Ohio State Buckeyes
  5. Clayton Tune, Houston Cougars
  6. Stetson Bennett, Georgia Bulldogs
  7. Hendon Hooker, Tennessee Volunteers
  8. Todd Centeio, James Madison Dukes
  9. Tanner McKee, Stanford Cardinal
  10. Jake Haener, Fresno State Bulldogs

As you can see, former Alabama star Bryce Young leads the pack for Pro Football Focus, and it won’t come as a surprise to many. However, there are plenty of fascinating selections that follow the former Heisman winner.

First, Kentucky’s Will Levis and Florida’s Anthony Richardson are considered serious projects at the NFL level, possessing some amazing traits, but their talent is raw. Meanwhile, NFL analysts believe former Ohio State star CJ Stroud can come in and start for many teams right away.

Pro Football Focus is banking on potential over immediate impact, ranking Levis and Richardson No. 2 and No. 3 respectively, with Stroud following at No. 4.

Afterwards, Clayton Tune of Houston snuck into their Top 5, ahead of Georgia’s Stetson Bennett and Tennessee’s Hendon Hooker. While Tune was more than solid with the Cougars over the course of his career, Bennett won two national titles, and Hooker has been regarded as a possible first round pick.

That’s certainly something that’ll miff Tennessee faithful, seeing Hooker behind Bennett in Pro Football Focus’ rankings. Perhaps their head-to-head battle had something to do with it, when Bennett’s Bulldogs exposed Hookers’ flaws en route to a blowout victory over the Volunteers.

Nevertheless, all it takes is one team to fall in love with you, and all pre-draft trends will be bucked. Pro Football Focus made some interesting picks, but the next two weeks will be more than telling as we weave through smokescreens galore.
