The Los Angeles Rams’ 2022 season continues to get worse news on the injury front. Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay told reporters on Wednesday afternoon that his defensive tackle, A’Shawn Robinson, has a torn meniscus and that he’s done for the season. He’ll have season-ending surgery, per McVay.

The Rams are already dealing with injuries to their starting quarterback, Matthew Stafford, who will be out on Sunday with a strained neck. Former Virginia Cavaliers star Bryce Perkins will get his first start for the National Football League this Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Los Angeles has also been dealing with an ankle injury to their superstar wide receiver, Cooper Kupp. He’s set to be out a minimum of four weeks and that timeline could be longer, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Losing Robinson for the rest of the season is just another tough blow on the injury front for the Rams franchise. They pushed all the chips in and got their Super Bowl championship season against the Cincinnati Bengals, but that moment seems like years ago now. It also makes you appreciate the remarkable dynasty run that the New England Patriots had for so many years under Bill Belichick and Tom Brady, because it’s just simply not that easy to get back to the Super Bowl, no matter how many pieces return on an NFL roster.

A’Shawn Robinson career profile

Robinson has started every game for the Rams this season and he’s racked up 42 tackles during the 2022 campaign. During his three seasons with the franchise–Robinson has racked up 121 tackles, two sacks, and two forced fumbles. The former Alabama star is in the final year of his contract with Los Angeles, so if he doesn’t work out a new deal, he’s set for free agency in March of 2023.

He was selected in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. While he had a much better football career on the college level and high school level, he’s still shown flashes of talent in the National Football League. His rookie season with the Lions, Robinson led all defensive tackles in the NFL in pass deflections (7). In the 2022 Super Bowl, he racked up six tackles and one sack, playing a critical role in shutting down the Cincinnati run game.

While at Alabama, he earned consensus All-American honors during the 2015 season. He started every game for a Crimson Tide defensive line that led the nation in rushing yards allowed per game, yards per carry allowed per game, and sacks per game. Alabama won the 2016 National Championship during his final season.

Coming out of high school, Robinson was rated as the No. 39 overall prospect in America, according to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2013 cycle. He was also selected to the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
