Four-star Curtis Williams set his official decision date for September 19. Williams is On3’s No. 56 player in the 2023 class. He is the industry-standard 2023 On3 Consensus No. 59 player.

Williams told On3 during Peach Jam there are three main schools involved with his recruitment. He visited Xavier in June and Louisville and Providence in September.

This one is pretty straightforward. We are going to focus on Louisville and Providence as they are the two who seem to be in the mix, so let’s go through all the intel as we rank the contenders.

1. Louisville

Williams developed a good relationship with the staff at Louisville, namely Nolan Smith. Since getting involved, Williams says that Louisville has been in constant communication, letting him know he is a priority.

Player development and early playing time have been pretty constant talking points for Williams.

Louisville’s chances: 85 percent

2. Providence

Ed Cooley built a fast relationship with Williams. He let him know how much he wanted him and was able to get a visit. Cooley pushed early playing time, and Williams was intrigued with the success Cooley has had, both winning games and developing players.

Providence’s chances: 15 percent

Final thoughts

Louisville and Providence came in late, but they both pushed hard for Williams. Williams set his commitment date for September 19, his mother’s birthday.

Williams has maintained his decision will be based on the relationship he builds with the coaches. Louisville’s Kenny Payne and Nolan Smith have done a great job in building a relationship with Williams.

Louisville will also get the last official visit, leaving the Cardinal’s campus just a day or so before his commitment date. Providence did give Williams something to think about, but at the end of the day, the relationship with Louisville was too strong.

Williams would be the second commitment of Louisville’s 2023 class joining four-star Kaleb Glenn.
