Ranking top 10 players in transfer portal as spring practices wrap up

With the college football spring practice period soon coming to a close, there are plenty of players in the NCAA Transfer Portal. As many more players will make the decision to enter the portal over the next few weeks, teams all across the country will also be looking to make a few additions to their roster ahead of the 2022 season.

There are many highly-rated players currently in the transfer portal, and they’re all looking for new schools. On3’s Transfer Portal Best Available provides a rundown of the top players in the NCAA Transfer Portal as spring practices wrap up.

Here’s a breakdown of the top 10 college football players who are currently in the transfer portal.

On3’s Top 10 Available Players in Transfer Portal

1. Agiye Hall | Wide Receiver | Alabama

A former On3 Consensus four-star wide receiver, Hall entered the transfer portal on April 7 after making four receptions for 72 yards as a freshman at Alabama last season. Along with the Crimson Tide, Hall held offers from schools such as Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson and LSU coming out of high school.

2. Josh Chandler | Linebacker | West Virginia

Chandler, who is a former On3 Consensus three-star prospect, has been in the portal since Feb. 25 after leaving West Virginia. A Canton, Ohio native, Chandler made 110 total tackles last season and will be a veteran fifth-year senior in 2022.

3. Deion Smith | Wide Receiver | LSU

Smith was a four-star recruit coming out of Jackson (Mississippi) Academy when he signed with LSU. After tallying 11 catches for 186 yards and two touchdowns as a freshman, Smith entered the transfer portal on Dec. 8 and is searching for a new home ahead of his sophomore campaign.

4. Bru McCoy | Wide Receiver | USC

A Santa Ana, California, native, McCoy initially decided to stay home and play for USC, but he’s now entered the portal and is looking to make a move. McCoy is a former five-star recruit who didn’t see any action with the Trojans last season after scoring two touchdowns in 2020.

5. Ochaun Mathis | EDGE | TCU

Mathis recorded 40-plus tackles in three of his four seasons at TCU and decided to enter his name into the portal back on Jan. 12. A former three-star recruit, Mathis is projected to land at Texas, according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.

6. Branden Jennings | Linebacker | Kansas State

Jennings put his name into the transfer portal on April 11 after going through spring practices at Kansas State. He made the move to K-State following a 23-tackle freshman season at Maryland in 2021.

7. Cam Johnson | Wide Receiver | Vanderbilt

Johnson was an On3 Consensus four-star prospect coming out of Brentwood (Tennessee) Academy and made the decision to stay close to home and play for Vanderbilt. He entered the transfer portal on Nov. 29 following four seasons with the Commodores, which included 1,233 yards and 10 touchdowns.

8. Trenton Gillison | Tight End | Michigan State

Gillison made just one reception for five yards during the 2021 season for Michigan State and entered the portal on Dec. 10. Gillison is a former four-star recruit out of Pickerington, Ohio.

9. Clay Webb | Offensive Lineman | Georgia

Webb, a former On3 Consensus five-star recruit, put his name into the transfer portal on April 10 after three seasons at Georgia. Webb is a 6-foot-3, 290-pound offensive lineman who held a number of big-name offers coming out of high school.

10. Demond Demas | Wide Receiver | Texas A&M

Demas was a five-star recruit coming out of Tomball (Texas) High School and caught 15 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown last season. He entered the transfer portal on March 29.
