Baltimore Ravens first round draft pick safety Kyle Hamilton went viral for the wrong reasons at training camp after he was beat badly during one-on-one competition with the Baltimore’s receivers.

The receiver who got the best of Hamilton was Bailey Gaither, a 2021 undrafted free agent out of San Jose State that signed with the Green Bay Packers initially and played last season in the USFL for the Pittsburg Maulers, where he finished the season with 24 catches for 328 yards and four touchdowns (tied for second in the USFL).

One of Hamilton’s weaknesses throughout the NFL draft evaluation process where his ability to cover smaller slot receivers in one on one coverage as well as change of direction and the ability to open up his hips. These are clearly areas to improve on for Hamilton, but definitely do not define his game by any means as he brings a lot more to the table for the Ravens defense.

Raven’s fans definitely don’t enjoy seeing their number one draft pick get burned by an undrafted free agent, but at the end of the day it is just practice, and new Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald will surely put Hamilton in positions this season to succeed and that cater to his skillset. Hamilton currently sits at +1100 odds of winning the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, and will definitely continue to be one of the most closely watched rookie players in this year’s draft class.

Contract terms revealed for Baltimore Ravens rookie Kyle Hamilton

The Baltimore Ravens agreed to contract terms with rookie safety Kyle Hamilton on Tuesday, the team announced. The four-year deal is reportedly worth a fully guaranteed $16.255 million with a singing bonus of $9.002 million and a fifth-year club option.

Notre Dame product, Hamilton was selected 14th overall in the 2022 NFL Draftthis past April. He finished his career in South Bend with 138 tackles, eight interceptions and 16 passes defended. The star safety suffered a knee injury this past season that caused him to miss the final six games of the season, including the Fiesta Bowl. He still managed to record 34 tackles, three interceptions and four passes defended across only seven games.

A former four-star plus recruit in the class of 2019, Hamilton was the No. 62 overall player in the nation per the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average. The Atlanta, Georgia, native also ranked as the No. 6 safety and No. 9 player in his home state after playing at Marist School.

With his new contract now set, Kyle Hamilton will get to work integrating himself into the Ravens roster. Fans will get their first chance to see him in action when Baltimore opens preseason play on Aug. 11 against the Titans.
