Rece Davis reveals AP vote change involving Georgia

In back-to-back weeks, Georgia struggled to some extent against teams that most people see as inferior. Last Saturday, it was late in the fourth quarter before Georgia was able to take the lead over Missouri. Because of this, some voters like Rece Davis removed them from the top spot in the rankings. This meant Georgia fell to number two.

Rece Davis appeared on the Paul Finebaum Show, where he explained that he’s not worried about Georgia but felt they deserved to be moved down slightly.

“I’m not worried at all,” Rece Davis said. “I think they’re sleepwalking. I think they know they’re a lot better than these last two teams they’ve played, and they just haven’t found the type of edge that Kirby Smart and really all of the players, I’m sure, would’ve liked going into those games to play at that level.”

“They’re still in that upper-echelon easily. They can win the national championship again. Now, I did move them off the one line in my AP ballot this week because you have to perform when you have three teams that are grouped together as closely as those three at the top are, in my judgement.”

Rece Davis then explained why he moved Georgia down in his AP Poll voting. While Georgia struggled, Alabama played well under more challenging circumstances. Ultimately, at this point in 2022, Alabama has the stronger resume.

“So, you know, I felt like the way Alabama won and the fact they did it with a backup quarterback and they have a couple of road wins that are probably a little better in terms of resume that Ohio State and Georgia have on the road. Though, Georgia probably has the single most impressive victory. So, I moved Alabama back to number one this week and moved Georgia down.”

Of course, the good news for Georgia is that they control their own destiny, and, ultimately, the AP Poll won’t matter to them. Win the SEC East and then the Bulldogs get a shot at the SEC West winner. Most people presume that the West winner is going to be Alabama. Win that and Georgia will definitely be a College Football Playoff team again.
