It has been quite the past calendar year for Andrej Stojakovic. Even six months ago, the shooting guard was not a consensus top-100 ranked player. The 6-foot-6 four-star is now the 2023 On3 Consensus No. 21 ranked player.

This season the Carmichael (CA) Jesuit High junior averaged 25.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, and shot 39.5 percent from three.

Joe Tipton broke the news of Stojakovic’s top six schools, UCLA, Texas, Oregon, Virginia, Stanford, and Duke.

Stojakovic’s recruitment

Stojakovic, the son of former NBA All-Star Peja Stojakovic, took two early official visits, Stanford (June 1) and UCLA (June 14).

The four-star shooting guard has two September visits set, Texas (September 9) and Oregon (September 16).

He has three available visits remaining; however, he has visited four of his six schools. Look to see if he sets one with Virginia. I do not expect Duke to be involved at this time.

In Stojakovic’s words

“I’ll be looking for a healthy environment to help me grow as a player and a person,” Stojakovic said. “Most of my family is overseas and would love to come to watch me play. I want to go somewhere that will be easy for my family to get to.

“A good ratio of academics and basketball. My goal is to make the NBA, so I want to look heavily at the school that can best help me get there.”

Thoughts and intel

Andrej Stojakovic took two early visits to Stanford and UCLA. Coming out of June, there was a lot of smoke around UCLA.

At this point, I would still say UCLA has a lead in this recruitment. However, Texas is making a hard charge. The Longhorns have him high on their board, and they are making it known.

Some things to watch for, does this recruitment make it past the Texas visit? Can Virginia set a date? What can Oregon get done on their visit?

Of note, Stojakovic’s has made it a point to talk extensively about his family coming to watch him play in college. The thought there is they will be moving, from California, back home to Europe after he graduates high school. So the tie to the west coast may not be as big a factor as once thought.

I think it is safe to call UCLA and Texas the leaders going into the second set of visits. At this point, Stanford, Virginia, and Oregon seem to be a bit behind the previous two. I don’t expect Duke, at this point, to be in the mix.

Stojakovic’s scouting report

Andrej Stojakovic has a lot of tools. It all starts with his scoring. He is comfortable with the one and two dribble pull-up and the catch and shoot three. His confidence has grown the most over the last 12 months. He is playing with a swagger about him. The shooting guard will need to continue gaining strength and tightening up everything, the handle, footwork, etc. He is the son of NBA great Peja Stojakovic. He is confident in his ability, he moves well, and he can score the ball at a high clip.
