The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly planning to retain the services of offensive coordinator Matt Canada for the 2023 season, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. This news comes as any number of NFL teams are retooling their coaching staffs.

ESPN NFL Nation reporter Brooke Pryor later confirmed the news that the Steelers would keep Canada on staff.

Despite much public outcry for the organization to move on from Canada, it seems for now he will be back for the Steelers in 2023. And after a season where the Steelers were well below average on offense.

In points for and yards per play, the Steelers finished ranked in the 20s, league-wide. They finished dead last in the league in passing touchdowns with 12 on the season as the offense moved from Mitch Trubisky to rookie Kenny Pickett running the show at quarterback.

And given the outwardly apparent need for the Steelers to invest in and develop Pickett, a first-round pick from the 2022 NFL Draft, keeping Canada in the fold is certainly a choice that will engender plenty of strong opinions.

Pittsburgh Steelers announce signing former second-round pick Anthony Miller to one-year deal

Former Memphis star and Chicago Bears second-round pick Anthony Miller is staying in Pittsburgh. The 28-year-old wide receiver spent three years in Chicago before splitting time with Houston and Pittsburgh during the 2021 season. Then, the Steelers opted to keep him through last offseason on a reserve contract. But just before the start of this season, Miller was placed on the injury reserve due to a shoulder issue and was never activated to the actual roster.

Despite the injury setbacks, Pittsburgh still liked what they saw from Miller, apparently. Because on Tuesday, roughly a week after the end of their season, the Steelers signed Miller to a one-year deal for the 2023 season. Here was the news via the Steelers’ team Twitter account:

“We have signed WR Anthony Miller to a one-year contract.”

Miller was a two-time 1,400-yard receiver in his junior and senior seasons with the Tigers and Chicago snatched him up with the 51st overall pick in the 2018 draft. After a few fairly successful seasons with the Bears, Miller was released and landed in Houston…where he didn’t stay for long before heading to Pittsburgh.
