Sam Ryder finished his day even at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, finishing with a final line of six-under par — which only slots him tied for 29th place — but Ryder still found a way to be the headline story of the golf world on Saturday.

Ryder stepped up to the 16th hole at TPC with a renewed confidence, and the crowd felt it. The hole, of course, is a unique one, too because of the three levels of stands surrounding the field of play — so when Ryder sunk a miraculous hole-in-one on the 16th hole, the fans had a first-row view.

And the fans had a first-class reaction.

The 16th hole, a 124-yard par-3, was perfect for Ryder. He hit a shot that landed just a few feet to the right of the hole, but with the perfect spin, it rolled its way back into the hole. The hole-in-one was met by a big hug between Ryder and his caddy, while the fans began to launch beer and other liquids onto the playing field. CBS footage showed the grandstands shaking as the fans lost their minds.

“We just talked about how going at (the pin) is so tough, but it’s worth the reward right here,” CBS broadcasters said, calling the replay of Ryder’s incredible hole-in-one. “Sam Ryder has a very expensive bar tab ahead of him.”

“Sam Ryder, taking it right at it. Talk to me! Come on!” the broadcasters said of Ryder’s shot. “Oh my god. There’s liquid coming down, there’s beer going everywhere, we are covered in beer and other liquids. Everyone is going insane. We might have a slight rain delay on the 16 here because it’s going to take a little bit of clean up when you take a look at what’s happening on the 16th hole. There’s no place like it.”

The 16th hole at the TPC Scottsdale is known as one of the wildest scenes in golf, and on Saturday, it delivered with Ryder getting doused by fans at the tee box.
