Could Scotty Pippen Jr. be heading back to California? He had a workout that could open that door ahead of the 2022 NBA Draft.

Pippen worked out for the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, the Lakers announced via Twitter. He was part of a group of six players to work out for Los Angeles, joining former Notre Dame forward Paul Atkinson and former Davidson forward Hyun-Jung Lee.

Pippen put together quite the three-year career with Vanderbilt, averaging more than 20 points per game his last two years with the Commodores. Last season as a junior, he averaged 20.4 points and 4.5 assists while shooting 41.6% from the field.

He started his high school career at Pine Crest School in Florida before finishing at Sierra Canyon in Chatsworth, California. Pippen arrived at Vanderbilt as a three-star recruit and the No. 155 player in the nation from the class of 2019, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Vanderbilt went 19-17 overall and 7-11 in SEC play last season to miss out on the NCAA Tournament. However, the Commodores appeared in the NIT and fell to Xavier in overtime during the third round of the tournament.

Former Notre Dame forward Paul Atkinson works out for Los Angeles Lakers

Paul Atkinson is getting some quality looks ahead of the 2022 NBA Draft.

The former Notre Dame forward worked out with the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, the Lakers said via Twitter. He was one of six players to work out with Los Angeles, including former Vanderbilt star Scotty Pippen Jr. and former Loyola Chicago standout Lucas Williamson.

Atkinson had a big year for Notre Dame after transferring from Yale. He started 34 of 35 games as a graduate transfer, averaging 12.5 points and a team-high 6.9 rebounds per game to help the Fighting Irish to a 24-11 overall record and a 15-5 record in ACC play. He also hit the game-winning shot during the First Four of the NCAA Tournament to send Notre dame past Rutgers and into the Field of 64.

Notre Dame eventually fell to Texas Tech in the Round of 32 after defeating Alabama in the first round of the tournament. Atkinson is one of two former Fighting Irish stars to stay in the NBA Draft, joining Blake Wesley.
