The Los Angeles Rams have changed their mind regarding their decision on star cornerback Jalen Ramsey, deciding not to put the former Florida State defensive back on the PUP list.

Sean McVay revealed the change of plans of Sunday, as Sarah Barshop of ESPN shared with the world on Twitter.

“Sean McVay said the Rams decided to pivot and not place CB Jalen Ramsey on the PUP list. McVay said the doctors were able to clear Ramsey to be able to participate in the ‘above the neck’ drills during training camp,” tweeted Barshop. “If he was on the PUP list, that wouldn’t have been possible.”

Prior to Sunday, the Rams stated they would be adding Ramsey to the list as he dealt with his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery. However, it’s evident Los Angeles believes it’s more important that Ramsey remains with the team, even in his limited state.

Last season, the former Florida State star struggled with his health at times, but he was still able to give consistent cornerback play throughout the season, despite his injuries. To illustrate, Ramsey recorded 77 tackles, 66 solo, nine tackles for loss, recovered a fumble, defended 16 passes, and had four interceptions. He finished the year being named to his seventh consecutive Pro Bowl team, along with his second consecutive First-team AP All-Pro selection.

If the Rams are going to defend their Super Bowl title, Jalen Ramsey will have a pivotal role to play. Evidently, Los Angeles and Sean McVay aren’t looking to mess with his mojo as he returns to playing health.

Furthermore, McVay provided an update on his star cornerbacks status during a press conference last Friday.

“He’s doing good, been attacking the rehab the right way. He’s feeling good,” McVay said. “When we did do that surgery on him, obviously most importantly was how he felt about it, but then with the goal in mind of, alright, attack the rehab the right way, and most importantly, be ready for Sept. 8, ready to go.

“So, we’ll be smart about that progress for him.”

For the Rams, the priority is getting Jalen Ramsey healthy and ready to go when the season kicks off in September. As long as the All Pro corner is ready to go come Week 1, McVay — who is also famously known for not playing his veterans during the preseason — will not have any problem with one of the teams top defenders sitting out and recovering until then.
