Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf had his Sunday afternoon cut short after suffering an apparent knee injury versus the Chargers.

The former Ole Miss star had to take the cart off the field and the Seahawks have ruled him out for the rest of the game. Unlike the last time Metcalf took the cart off the field, he is in a more serious situation this time.

Metcalf was running toward the left-front corner of the endzone when he caught a pass and tweaked his left knee as he was coming down with the ball.

The Seahawks are leading the Chargers in the second quarterback but it is a one-score game and Metcalf’s loss is already impacting the game.

So far this season, DK Metcalf has 30 receptions for 406 yards and two touchdowns. Last week versus the Cardinals, he had his least productive game of the year with just two catches on seven targets for 34 yards. The big-bodied wideout exited Sunday’s game with one catch for 12 yards.

This offseason, Metcalf signed a three-year, $72 million contract extension with the Seahawks. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that $58.2 million of the deal is guaranteed and his $30 million signing bonus was the highest ever for a wide receiver.

Metcalf emerged as a top target in Seattle after the Seahawks drafted him No. 64 overall in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Last season, he totaled 967 yards and a career-high 12 touchdowns. He sat out mandatory minicamp in the offseason due to contract disputes. Metcalf was “holding in” amid the contract talks, meaning he reported to camp but wasn’t participating.
