Rumors of disgruntled Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield to the Seattle Seahawks have been thrown around this offseason. However, NFL insider Ian Rapoport does not see that happening. In fact, Rapaport has heard nothing from any of his sources to connect the dots in this Mayfield rumor.

“I’ve heard nothing to corroborate Baker to the Seahawks at all. It seems crazy to me, but they have never really been that interested in Baker,” said Rapoport. “What they have wanted is a Drew Lock versus Geno Smith battle. That is going to be a fascinating training camp because we’re gonna see them literally battle out in the field. And don’t know which way it’s gonna go. It seems like Geno has a little bit of a leg up now, but it’s gonna be a fun battle.”

Seattle traded Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos earlier this offseason, leaving either Drew Lock or Geno Smith to go under center this year. Neither did much to impress last season as starters — Lock when he was with the Denver Broncos and Smith when he took over while Wilson was injured. However, it appears as if Seattle is going to stick with their two options, for now, leaving the Browns to find another solution to their quarterback conundrum.

US Open social media account takes shot at Drew Lock, Seahawks

As of now, the Seattle Seahawks are set to open the 2022 season with Drew Lock or Geno Smith as their quarterback. That seems a drastic step down from Russell Wilson, who led the franchise to a Super Bowl in 2013 and was traded this offseason to the Denver Broncos.

The US Open Twitter account used that fact to its advantage Saturday when it took a savage shot at both Drew Lock and the Seahawks. After a fan responded to a SportsCenter tweet from the US Open claiming tennis was “not a sport,” the US Open Twitter account fired back with a critique of the current Seattle quarterback.

“Not a sport says the person about to watch 17 games of Drew Lock at QB,” the account responded.

Lock was included in the trade for Wilson this past offseason, along with tight end Noah Fant and several draft picks. He spent the first three seasons of his NFL career with the Broncos, totaling 740 yards, 25 touchdowns and 20 interceptions across 21 starts. Denver previously selected him in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
