After an exciting third week of play, the SEC has handed out its weekly awards for Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, Freshman of the Week, Special Teams Player of the Week, as well as Offensive Lineman and Defensive Lineman of the Week. So a lot of guys to honor every seven days.

Anyway, here are this week’s winners:

SEC Players of the Week

Offensive Player of the Week

Defensive Player of the Week

Special Teams Player of the Week

Freshman of the Week

Offensive Lineman of the Week

Defensive Lineman of the Week

So there you have it. Georgia’s Bowers takes home Offensive Player of the Week honors after the Dawgs turned in a performance that could have won the award for a number of their players. But the pick was the sophomore tight end after he hauled in five catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns, highlighted by a 78-yard rumble to make it 31-zip for UGA over South Carolina in the second half.

LSU safety Jay Ward was also a worthy winner on the defensive side. The senior safety led all Tiger tacklers with 11 of them and, more importantly than all of those, picked off Mississippi State’s last gasp in the fourth quarter to seal the deal over the Bulldogs. Huge performance for No. 5 on D.

In a shocking turn of events, Vanderbilt landed a member of its team on the Player of the Week lists. The Commodores took down MAC favorite Northern Illinois on the road last weekend, led by freshman quarterback AJ Swann. The true freshman finished with 255 passing yards and four touchdowns through the air as Vandy outlasted NIU by 10. He led the ‘Dores to a 38-point outing and a double digit true road win. Impressive stuff.
