The SEC softball tournament was going strong Wednesday as the second day of games got underway. Then, Mother Nature intervened — and the bracket was re-shuffled.

Following a lengthy, four-plus hour rain delay, the SEC revealed the new-look schedule for the weekend.

Wednesday was supposed to end with Florida facing off against Kentucky, but that game has been moved to the start of Thursday’s action. First pitch is scheduled for 10 a.m. CT, followed by Auburn vs. Ole Miss 35 minutes later.

After that, Georgia will take on South Carolina at 4 p.m. CT and the day will end with the nightcap of Arkansas vs. the winner of Alabama vs. Missouri, which is rounding out Wednesday’s action after the long delay. Because of the shakeup, Tennessee will face the winner of the Florida vs. Kentucky game to start Friday’s action.

South Carolina knocks off Texas A&M after four-hour rain delay

South Carolina and Texas A&M were in the midst of an extra-innings thriller in the first round of the SEC softball tournament on Wednesday before entering a lightning delay with two outs in the top of the eighth inning.

Just after the Gamecocks took a 1-0 lead, play was suspended due to lightning in the area of Bogle Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Prior to the suspension, Riley Blampied got South Carolina on the board with the game’s first run. She hit a single to right field to bring Emma Sellers around to score and give the Gamecocks the lead in the first extra inning.

That ultimately held as the final score as South Carolina pitcher Donnie Gobourne got through some trouble in the eight inning to ultimately seal the victory and send the Gamecocks to the next round.
