After news broke of his <a href="https://www.on3.com/news/sherrone-moore-detained-after-firing-michigan-head-coach/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">detainment by police</a> in Washtenaw County, Mich., the charges against former <a href="https://www.on3.com/teams/michigan-wolverines/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Michigan</a> head coach <a href="https://www.on3.com/rivals/coach/sherrone-moore-134559/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sherrone Moore</a> were revealed on Friday. Moore was charged with home invasion in the third degree, stalking, and breaking and entering.



Per the release, home invasion in the third degree is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $2,000 fine. Stalking is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Breaking and entering is a violation of this statute is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine. An arraignment hearing is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. ET in 14A District Court.



The criminal complaint against Moore has also been revealed.

Moore was booked into the Washtenaw County Jail at approx. 8:30 p.m. ET on Dec. 10. That came after his detainment by police. Officers responded to the 3000 block of Ann Arbor Saline Rd. in Pittsfield Township at approx. 4:10 p.m. ET on Dec. 10 to investigate an alleged assault, the Pittsfield Township Police Department said in a statement late Dec. 10.



“The Pittsfield Police Department responded to the above location at the above date and time for the purposes of investigating an alleged assault,” <a href="https://x.com/TonyPaul1984/status/1998956884452323663?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the statement read</a>. “The department has received multiple media requests for information. A suspect in this case was taken into custody. This incident does not appear to be random in nature, and there appears to be no ongoing threat to the community. The suspect was lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of charges by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor.



“At this time, the investigation is ongoing. Given the nature of the allegations, the need to maintain the integrity of the investigations, and its current status at this time, we are prohibited from releasing additional details. Further details regarding the incident will be released as soon as permissible.”

ESPN’s Dan Wetzel reported Moore’s detainment by police in Saline, Mich. on Dec. 10. The Detroit News’ Tony Paul later added that <a href="https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/university-michigan/2025/12/10/michigan-wolverines-sherrone-moore-involved-in-incident-that-required-police-attention/87709397007/?taid=693a12964e3d2800013f8220&utm_campaign=trueanthem&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">an incident occurred</a> that day, which required police attention. In a statement to ESPN, the Saline Police Department said it assisted in the situation and turned him over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department.



“The City of Saline Police Department assisted in locating and detaining former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore,” Saline Police said in a statement to ESPN. “Mr. Moore was turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for investigation into potential charges.”



UM also announced <a href="https://www.on3.com/news/sherrone-moore-fired-michigan-head-coach/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sherrone Moore’s firing</a> Dec. 10, which AD Warde Manuel <a href="https://www.on3.com/news/sherrone-moore-firing-warde-manuel-confirms-decision-for-cause-investigation-names-biff-poggi-interim/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">said was for cause</a>. A university investigation found evidence of an alleged inappropriate relationship with a staff member, which Manuel said was grounds for firing. On3’s <a href="https://www.on3.com/user/petenakos/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pete Nakos</a> also <a href="https://x.com/PeteNakos/status/1998870780084629575?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">confirmed</a> Wolverines players were abruptly called for a team meeting, where they learned of the news.



“U-M head football coach Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” <a href="https://x.com/CSayf23/status/1998871430616813578?s=20" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Manuel said in a statement</a>. “Following a University investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior. <a href="https://www.on3.com/rivals/coach/biff-poggi-175874/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Biff Poggi</a> has been appointed head football coach in an interim capacity, effective immediately.”



Michigan went 9-3 during the 2025 regular season, including a 2-0 record with Poggi as acting head coach while Moore served a suspension as a result of a sign-stealing investigation into the program. The Wolverines are set to play against <a href="https://www.on3.com/teams/texas-longhorns/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Texas</a> in the Citrus Bowl on New Year’s Eve.
