Sherrone Moore reveals his reaction to Notre Dame opting out of a bowl game after CFP snub
After weeks of anticipation about whether or not Miami or Notre Dame would be the last at-large team in the College Football Playoff, the decision was made Sunday afternoon.
Miami, thanks in part to its 27-24 win over the Fighting Irish on Aug. 31, jumped Notre Dame in the final CFP Rankings to make its first ever College Football Playoff appearance. Notre Dame was the First Team Out, and was reportedly tabbed for a Pop-Tarts Bowl matchup against BYU.
This, however, did not occur. Following its snub from the College Football Playoff, Notre Dame announced that it would not be participating in the postseason this year. Other programs, such as Iowa State and Kansas State, made the same decision. Those programs however are undergoing a coaching change, while Notre Dame was just one spot away from the CFP with one of the brightest coaches in the sport.
Following the decision, Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was asked for his take on the situation during Monday’s media opportunity. Moore and his Michigan Wolverines are preparing for a Cheez-It Citrus Bowl matchup against Texas.
“Yeah, that’s their decision,” Moore said. “That’s something that we’re just not going to do. That’s their decision.”

Mario Cristobal uses Nick Saban analogy when describing Notre Dame’s decision
While Moore was a bit tight-lipped about the decision, Miami head coach Mario Cristobal spoke more in depth about Notre Dame opting to forgo a bowl game. His Hurricanes took the final at-large spot in the CFP.
“That’s their choice,” Cristobal said. “I don’t know how that affects or doesn’t affect how things are done and processes. Actually, Coach [Nick] Saban always had a great line. It was like, ‘If you want to make everybody happy, don’t coach and get involved in football. Go sell ice cream because the ice cream man makes everybody happy.’ In football, not everybody’s going to be happy.
“Notre Dame’s a great football team. All processes need to get, I don’t know, assessed again and remedied wherever they can. But I think everybody’s working at it. Last year, we were excluded, and we weren’t very happy. And, you know, it’s a tough business, man. It’s a really, really tough business. I respect everybody and everyone involved in it. And my focus right now is really on just getting us prepared for Texas A&M.”
Alas, Notre Dame‘s season comes to a close after rattling off eight consecutive wins to get to a 10-2 record. Michigan will now go into full preparation mode for its matchup against the Longhorns. With a win, the Wolverines would hit the 10-win mark for the fourth time in the past five seasons.
