Silas Demary, Jr. is On3s No. 8 point guard in the 2023 class. The 6-foot-5 four-star’s recruitment has been very tight-lipped and kept close to the vest, so the reads from within the industry have been all over the place.

While recruitment took a while to get going for the big guard, Demary is closing in on 20 offers. Now at nationally ranked Lincolnton (NC) Combine Academy, Demary has taken five total official visits; Tennessee, VCU, and St. John’s early and then NC State and Southern California late.

Demary set his commitment date for Friday. Let’s go through the intel and rank the contenders for the four-star point guard.

1. Southern California

Southern California offered around the same time NC State did in July. Head Coach Andy Enfield showed Demary his two-point guard attack he ran at Florida Gulf Coast and early in his time at Southern California and that he would be going back to that. Enfield has already been to Lincolnton (NC) Combine Academy multiple times since the Fall live evaluation period started.

With the revival of Dunk City said to be happening, USC has also produced multiple pros.

USC’s chances: 85 percent

2. VCU

VCU checked a lot of boxes for Demary, namely, play style and development. The Rams have put a guard in the NBA draft each of the last two draft classes, and they have won a lot of games under head coach Mike Rhoades. Assistant coach Jamal Brunt did a great job building this relationship with staying power.

VCU’s chances: 10 percent

3. NC State

NC State is the hometown school. He grew up in Raleigh and won a state championship in Raleigh. Despite offering in July, Joel Justus built a relationship with the family and has relationships all around this recruitment. The freedom they give their guards is very attractive.

NC State’s chances: 5 percent

Final thoughts

While Silas Demary, Jr. grew up in Raleigh, he was born in Los Angeles. There is a familiarity with the area from the family. Naturally, with the family currently residing in Raleigh, there is a familiarity with NC State as well.

Southern California checked all the boxes Demary has maintained he is looking for. They are a winning program that consistently produces pros and built a great relationship with him. They also showed Demary he was a priority.

VCU did a great job in this recruitment, hanging in there until the very end. Brunt deserves a lot of credit here, and Rhoades answered every question and showed the family you can get every you need at VCU. At one point, NC State had some momentum, but things seemed to start to dwindle after the official visit.

It sounds like this one has been leaning toward Southern California for a couple of weeks. It sounds like fellow recruits have been contacting Demary as well, recruiting him to join them in the cardinal and gold.

As things stand, this one is looking like Southern California has quietly built a lot of momentum over the last couple of weeks. This one was tight-lipped with a small circle, but with the intel gathered, when pressing ‘publish’ on this article, Andy Enfield’s Trojans are trending to land this top ten point guard in the 2023 class.
