Simmons Scoop: Oklahoma is a good spot for 4-star RB Daylan Smothers

Charlotte (N.C.) West Charlotte four-star running back Daylan Smothers is down to four schools — Alabama, Florida State, NC State and Oklahoma — but there is one school in prime position to land him Thursday.

“I think Oklahoma is in a great spot,” On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons said on The Simmons Scoop.

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has Oklahoma as the have favorite to land Smothers at 95.0%.

The Sooners have been on a recruiting hot streak of late. Five of their top six prospects have committed since the start of June, which has bumped them up to 13th in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Ranking. Smothers commitment could see them jump up again.

“The talented running back out of North Carolina has been trending heavily — at least behind the scenes — to Oklahoma for some time,” Simmons said. “They’ve had a great run this summer as well and I think they’ll add another big time commit in the coming days.”

Daylan Smothers is the No. 272 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

The 2023 On300 ranking has Smothers ranked higher as the No. 194 prospect and No. 8 running back in the class. The Industry Comparison Tool shows On3 is the second-highest organization on Smothers in the industry.

He currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $52k. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
