SoFi Stadium, home of the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, is just a few years old and is already known for its unique design. The stadium has no walls and open-air sections of the roof — and that creates problem for days like Monday.

As Georgia and TCU faced off in the College Football Playoff national championship, it started raining inside the stadium. That’s because the water was coming through those openings in the SoFi roof, which is why people were wearing ponchos inside.

The Bulldogs, however, were unfazed in the first half as they took a 38-7 lead into halftime.

The rain was a topic of conversation during ESPN2’s “Field Pass” broadcast with Pat McAfee, who made a unique observation about the indoor rain.

“It’s raining indoors in Los Angeles,” McAfee said. “That’s a special night. This is God taking a tinkle on something magical, isn’t it? Whichever God you believe in, it’s raining right through this roof. I don’t know how that’s possible, but this is the national championship.”

Georgia put on a clinic on offense in the first two quarters as the Bulldogs attempted to repeat as national champions. Stetson Bennett threw for 223 yards on 14 of 18 passing and two touchdowns while also rushing for 39 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to lead the attack. Ladd McConkey and AD Mitchell both had touchdown receptions.

As for TCU, the Horned Frogs struggled mightily against the vaunted Georgia defense, totaling just 121 yards of offense. Quarterback Max Duggan rushed for their lone touchdown of the game, but he also threw two interceptions in addition to his 97 passing yards.

TCU is going through the game without leading rusher Kendre Miller, who suffered an injury in last week’s Fiesta Bowl and was ruled out prior to kickoff of the national championship.
