The coaching carousel continues to move along — and it appears LSU is losing another key recruiter.

New Florida coach Billy Napier is expected to bring LSU cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond on board as assistant head coach of the defense/cornerbacks coach, sources told On3’s Matt Zenitz.

Raymond has been on staff at LSU since 2012, starting as defensive backs and associate head coach before moving to cornerbacks coach in 2017. He added recruiting coordinator to his title in 2020.

He played at LSU from 1987-91 and went to the NFL as an undrafted free agent. After playing for the New York Giants and Detroit Lions from 1992-97, Raymond went into high school coaching.

LSU brought him on board as an intern in 2006 and moved him to assistant strength and conditioning coach from 2007-08. From there, he went to Utah as cornerbacks coach from 2009-10 and Nebraska as defensive backs coach in 2011.

Nebraska inks deal with top LSU assistant

There’s a new coach in town at LSU as Brian Kelly gets ready to take over. But he won’t have one of the Tigers’ top recruiters with him.

LSU wide receivers coach Mickey Joseph is in talks to join Scott Frost’s staff at Nebraska in a similar role. FootballScoop first reported the move. Joseph, a Nebraska alum, is known as a talented recruiter, which is quite a boost for the Cornhuskers.

Joseph played quarterback at Nebraska from 1988-91, graduating four years before Frost transferred from Stanford. He has been at LSU since 2017 as wide receivers coach and was promoted to assistant head coach in 2020.

It would be part of Frost’s effort to re-vamp his coaching staff next year. Last month, Frost fired four assistant coaches after Nebraska announced he’ll be back on the sidelines next season. Adding Joseph would bring some solid recruiting prowess, especially since Nebraska now has to replace its starting quarterback.

Nebraska went 3-9 this season and lost eight of those games by eight points or less. Only Ohio State won by more than one possession, beating the Cornhuskers by nine points. Frost received quite a vote of confidence from university leadership and is confirmed to be back on the sidelines as head coach next season.
