During a blowout win over the Kansas Jayhawks, Texas running back Roschon Johnson suffered a leg injury that put him in street clothes and a walking boot after the game. Following the win, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian addressed the injury, making it sound like there was not much to be concerned about regarding Johnson.

“I don’t think it’s serious, first of all,” Sarkisian said. “Now, to what degree? I don’t know. It’s a lower leg issue. But he’s very confident he’ll be back. We’ve just got to see how it plays out.”

Of course, the bigger name of the two running backs on the Longhorns’ roster is Bijan Robinson. The leading rusher by far this season for Texas, Robinson had quite the day against Kansas going for 243 yards and five touchdowns on 25 carries. But Johnson is also crucial to Texas’ success, as he has provided a nice spark as a backup.

Johnson has 477 yards and three touchdowns on 80 carries this season. Johnson had 34 yards on seven carries, an average of 4.9 yards per carry, before his injury against the Jayhawks. Recently, Johnson has been putting up big numbers, as he had 73 yards against Oklahoma State and 62 yards against Kansas State with touchdowns in each game.

With the 55-14 win over Kansas, Texas improved to 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the Big 12. The Longhorns are in third place in the Big 12, but need a Kansas State loss on Saturday in order to make the Big 12 title game. But Sarkisian is not focused on what anyone but his team is doing.

“I don’t think we can,” Sarkisian said. “We’ve got at great challenge. Baylor is a very good football team as we all know. So we’ve got to prepare for a short week. A little different schedule for us. We’ll get back for the guys, have them in tomorrow, review this film, make the corrections off of this film, then Monday morning, when they come back in, it’ll all be prep for Baylor. It’s a short week by day. It’s a short week by kickoff time with an 11 a.m. Friday. We’ve got to get our bodies back and we’ve got to make sure we’re fresh come Friday at 11.”

Texas hosts Baylor on Saturday to wrap up the regular season. The game is slated for an 11 a.m. CT kick.
