Lane Johnson announces he is returning to Philadelphia Eagles
Offensive tackle Lane Johnson hasn’t played since Week 3 for the Philadelphia Eagles. Johnson took time away to work on his mental health, but now he is returning to the team. Johnson announced his return in a statement he released on Twitter on Monday morning.
“I would like to thank everyone for their understanding and support over the last two weeks,” Johnson said. “I appreciate the positive notes and messages as I’ve worked hard to restore my personal life. Depression and anxiety are things I’ve dealt with for a long time and have kept hidden from my friends and family. If you’re reading this and struggling, please know that you are not alone.
“I am excited to re-join my teammates and coaches. I’m grateful for the entire Eagles community and look forward to continuing to play in front of the best fans in the world!”
Johnson started each of the first three games of the season for the Eagles. He has not been with the team over the last two games. The Eagles are currently 2-4 on the season. Getting Johnson back on the offensive line will be a big boost to the Eagles on offense.
Johnson is in his ninth season with the Eagles
The Eagles drafted Johnson fourth overall in the 2013 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma. Since entering the league, Johnson has played in 102 games, starting every one. Johnson has made three Pro Bowls in his NFL career and he was a First Team All-Pro selection in 2017.
On the season, the Eagles have been somewhat inconsistent on offense. Quarterback Jalen Hurts has completed 62.5 percent of his passes for 1,380 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions. Hurts also leads the team with 300 rushing yards and five touchdowns on the ground.
When the Eagles have run the ball, there has been mixed results as well. Miles Sanders is the team’s next leading rusher with 270 yards on 57 carries. Kenneth Gainwell has 100 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries. Adding Johnson back to the offensive front should help bring stability to the Eagles on offense.
The Eagles’ upcoming schedule includes two road trips to las Vegas and Detroit before returning home to host the Chargers in Week 9. Despite being just 2-4, the Eagles are currently tied for second in the NFC East.
