Tampa Bay Buccaneers select LSU defensive end Andre Anthony in 2022 NFL Draft

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers selected Andre Anthony, a defensive end out of LSU with the 248th overall selection in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft. This past season, he was a sixth-year senior for LSU and racked up 3.5 sacks and four tackles for loss, before suffering a season-ending injury against Central Michigan. During the 2020 season, he led the Tigers with 5.5 sacks. He also posted his highest tackle for loss total that season with 5.5.

Former LSU head coach Ed Orgeron praised Anthony for his play during the 2021 preseason scrimmages for the Tigers. He was certainly poised for a big season during the 2021-2022 campaign, before suffering his injury. Anthony ranked among the national leaders in tackles for loss and sacks before suffering his injury. The gifted defender played linebacker during his career, but found a home at the defensive end position.

Anthony graduated from LSU in August of 2020 with a degree in sports administration.

Andre Anthony was one of the nation’s top high school prospects

Anthony was one of the top defensive end prospects in America coming out of Edna Karr High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. He also played at Miller-McCoy Academy before transferring to Edna Karr as a senior. He was listed as a four-star prospect coming out of high school according to major recruiting services. The talented defensive end racked up 56 tackles and eight sacks as a senior in 2015. He led Edna Karr to the 2015 4A state championship game, where the Cougars would lose. At the end of his high school career, he was selected to play in the Under Armour All-American Game.

According to the On3 Consensus Rankings for the 2016 recruiting cycle, Anthony was rated as a four-star prospect and the No. 22 edge prospect in America.
