Taylor Swift fans rejoiced early Friday when Variety reported she’d be performing the halftime show at Super Bowl LVII. However, conflicting information is coming out — and she won’t be headlining the show, after all.

TMZ reported officials asked Swift to perform the halftime show “months ago,” but she declined and wants to focus on re-recording her first six albums before performing. However, the report indicated Swift would be interested in performing at a Super Bowl down the road. It just didn’t work out this year.

Last year’s show featured an impressive group at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Rappers Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, 50 Cent, Dr. Dre and R&B singer Mary J. Blige took the stage, but TMZ also reported Super Bowl officials still want a “female popstar” for this year’s game in Phoenix.

More on the reports connecting Taylor Swift to the Super Bowl

Taylor Swift is reportedly going to headline the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show, according to Variety. The outlet reported that three sources “close to the situation” claim Swift will headline for Super Bowl 57 in February. Super Bowl LVII will be played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

Variety has not yet received comment or confirmation from Swift’s reps, Roc Nation or the NFL.

The outlet also reports that Swift’s performance at the Super Bowl could be due to the game’s new partnership with Apple Music.

“A less-obvious reason lies in the Apple Music announcement — or, rather, the fact that Pepsi announced that it would not renew its ten-year-long sponsorship of the Halftime show this year,” Variety’s Jem Aswad wrote. “The sponsorship began in 2013 — the same year that Swift launched a long partnership with Pepsi’s decades-long arch-rival Coca-Cola. While sources reported that Swift’s deal with Coke prohibited her from playing a Pepsi-sponsored Halftime show, whether or not it did, it would have been awkward.”
