The 2023 college football season promises to be a fun one and the race for the national championship already has some betting favorites listed by the oddsmakers.

Don’t be surprised, but Georgia is once again the favorite to win it all, getting +220 odds to win it all from FanDuel.

The Bulldogs have a decent amount to replace, including starting quarterback Stetson Bennett, who finished fourth in last year’s Heisman Trophy voting after accounting for 27 passing touchdowns and 10 rushing touchdowns.

But few teams in college football have recruited better than Georgia, and it’s hard to get a better barometer for whether a team can go back-to-back than, well, Georgia actually doing that just last year.

So who are the other top contenders?

Alabama checks in with +500 odds, though the Crimson Tide are facing the same quarterback question mark as Georgia in needing to replace potential No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick Bryce Young. The Tide will also have to replace star edge rusher Will Anderson.

Ohio State is another contender, and you guessed it… another team replacing an elite starting quarterback in CJ Stroud. But the Buckeyes return some absolute dynamite firepower on offense in the form of running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams and receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka.

That’s a lot of weapons for whichever quarterback assumes the throne in Columbus.

Michigan is another team with pretty favorable odds at +1000, with the Wolverines the first team on the list not needing to replace a starting quarterback. JJ McCarthy is back after throwing for 2,719 yards and 22 touchdowns a year ago.

USC is next up on the list at +1600, the last team with its own set of odds before several teams bundle up at a few different tiers a bit further down the list. The Trojans are another team sporting an excellent starting quarterback, with 2022 Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams back.

Lincoln Riley is still only in Year 2 of his rebuild, so while the roster probably still isn’t as elite as he’ll eventually have it, he’s done a nice job patching some holes with the transfer portal and he’s signed some elite recruits.
