Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed goes down with non-contact leg injury
Texas A&M sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed suffered a lower left leg injury in the first quarter of Friday night’s Lone Star Showdown rivalry game against Texas. Reed appeared to turn his ankle on a second-and-15 scramble with just under three minutes left in the opening quarter.
Reed went down untouched as his left ankle rolled awkwardly and stayed face down on the turf writhing in pain for several seconds before the Aggies medical staff attended to him on the field. Reed spent more than a minute on the field as trainers attended to him before he was helped up and limped off the field under his own power.
Texas A&M kicker Jared Zirkel missed a 35-yard field goal two plays after Reed went down to keep the game scoreless. Following the missed field goal, ABC cameras spotted Reed attempting to run and juke near the Aggies’ sideline between series. The Longhorns ended the subsequent offensive series with a 41-yard field goal by kicker Mason Shipley to take a 3-0 lead with 12 minutes left in the second quarter.
“You saw Marcel Reed limp off the field with an apparent leg injury, and teammates asked him if he’d return and he said: ‘I don’t know, but I’ll try,'” ABC/ESPN sideline reporter Molly McGrath said as the Aggies took the field in the second quarter. “I watched him run back and forth (on the sideline), he moved and cut well. I’m told he’s expected to return, coming back on the field now playing through that injury.”
Thankfully, Texas A&M’s Heisman Trophy-contending quarterback would only miss one play though as Reed returned to the game to start Texas A&M’s next offensive possession with 12:04 left before halftime. Reed completed a 12-year completion on his first play back as the Aggies mounted their own scoring drive capped by a 31-yard field goal from Zirkel with 6:41 left in the second quarter.

Texas A&M WR KC Concepcion wears ‘Horns Down’ cleats for Lone Star Showdown vs. Texas
Friday night marked Texas A&M WR KC Concepcion’s first Lone Star Showdown against Texas. He wore cleats fit for the occasion.
Concepcion debuted “Horns Down” cleats for the matchup at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. The former NC State transfer had two catches for 23 yards in the first quarter of the rivalry affair and is leaning into it in a big way.
Texas A&M can clinch a spot in the SEC Championship with a victory over Texas in Friday’s game. A loss, though, would mean the Aggies would need help to get to Atlanta.
