Texas A&M WR KC Concepcion wears 'Horns Down' cleats for Lone Star Showdown vs. Texas
Friday night marked Texas A&M WR KC Concepcion’s first Lone Star Showdown against Texas. He wore cleats fit for the occasion.
Concepcion debuted “Horns Down” cleats for the matchup at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. The former NC State transfer had two catches for 23 yards in the first quarter of the rivalry affair and is leaning into it in a big way.
Texas A&M can clinch a spot in the SEC Championship with a victory over Texas in Friday’s game. A loss, though, would mean the Aggies would need help to get to Atlanta.
KC Concepcion has emerged as an integral part of the Texas A&M offense in his first season with the program. He entered Friday’s game as the Aggies’ leading receiver with 829 yards and nine touchdowns as a top target for quarterback Marcel Reed.
This year marks the second straight that Texas and Texas A&M have played after the Longhorns joined the SEC. Last season’s matchup at Kyle Field – a Longhorns victory – was the first Lone Star Showdown matchup since 2011 and took place on a Saturday night in primetime.

This year, though, the game caps a Black Friday tripleheader on ABC which started in Starkville for the Egg Bowl. Texas A&M athletics director Trev Alberts said this week he’d like the game to stay on Black Friday and keep the primetime feel. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian also advocated for the coveted slot.
“You have a lot of different factors,” Alberts said in a press conference. “I do anticipate it will stay on Friday. Chris (Del Conte) and I talked about this a little bit — what you really want, from my perspective, you want this game to be in a window where you’re like, it. We believe that this game, and it already is — when two teams who invest so much in football and this game means a lot to them — this is a rivalry that has a chance. You want that to be in a prime time window when the entire focus on the country is on those two brands.
“So, we’re excited that it’s in prime time, we’re excited that it’s on Friday night. We think it’s a perfect time. I would anticipate, unless there’s something significantly that changes with our television partner or even numbers of conference games in the future, but for right now, I think it fits really nicely Friday night.”
