Kentucky quarterback Will Levis has burst into the NFL Draft conversation this offseason. After transferring to Lexington and having a successful junior season, draft buzz for the Middletown, Connecticut native has become very loud. Levis went from backup at Penn State to potential first round pick in the 2023 draft in just over one year.

PFF’s Michael Renner recently wrote an article naming one prospect for each NFL team to keep tabs on this season. He picked Levis for the New York Giants, a team who may be in the market for a new QB in the near future. Renner went on to compliment Levis further by comparing him to one of the NFL’s best players today.

“From a pure tools perspective, Levis is probably the closest thing in the upcoming draft class to Josh Allen. And we all saw what Giants head coach Brian Daboll did with that in Buffalo,” said Renner. “In his first season as a starter after transferring from Penn State, Levis earned a 90.6 overall grade.”

Comparing Levis to Allen, a potential MVP candidate in 2022, is high praise. However, the similarities are there between the two. They have a similar frames around 6-4 and around 230 pounds. Both also come equipped with a cannon for an arm along with durability in the run game.

The Giants have had just one winning season in the last nine years. Daniel Jones has been the starting quarterback since Eli Manning’s retirement in 2018. With more and more signs that he’s not the heir apparent, this could be Jones’ last shot as the Giants starter. That’s where Levis can come in as their new high level prospect.

Will Levis likely won’t be the first quarterback off the board in a stacked class in 2023. However, he could fall to a team in need like the Giants somewhere in the first round. At that point, his potential could be worth taking a flyer on as a starting QB in the future.
