Montverde, FL – The 19th Annual Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament (M.A.I.T.) is now over. With the amount of high-level talent in the event, many notable performances were worth discussing with The On3 Awards.

On3 Sports was on hand for most of the event and is handing awards to highlight the most impressive individual efforts.

Most Valuable Player

6-5 PG Jalen Hood-Schifino
Hood-Schifino turned in the most impressive performance of the weekend, finishing with 26 points on night one. The On3 Consensus No. 21 ranked player is a strong framed lead guard, able to get to his spots and absorb contact off the bounce. Hood-Schifino plays with a lot of poise, and his confidence is at an all-time high.

Hood-Schifino has signed with Indiana.

Most Outstanding Player

6-5 SG Riley Kugel
Kugel raised eye-browns after his play at the City of Palms. He has continued his dominating play at this weekend’s M.A.I.T. Tournament. Kugel was a strong-framed shooting guard who was comfortable handling the ball, attacking the basket, and shooting from range. His 24 point semi-final performance almost sent Orlando (FL) Dr. Phillips to the finals. The On3 Consensus No. 207 ranked player is in line for a significant bump during the upcoming rankings drop.

Kugel has signed with Mississippi State.

Defensive MVP

6-8 F Dillon Mitchell
Mitchell has long carried a reputation for his athleticism, which shows on the defensive end. The On3 Consensus No. 12 ranked player uses his length and quickness to defend up and down a lineup. Mitchell’s defensive versatility can be exciting to watch, deflections, weak-side blocks, guarding the point of attack. He helped lead his Montverde (FL) Academy team to the championship.

Mitchell has signed with Texas.

Paint Touch PG

6-1 PG Jayden Pierre
Pierre is a quick-twitch lead guard who plays both ends of the floor aggressively. He started the first game off slow but picked it up late and kept the motor high for Long Island (NY) Lutheran for the remainder of the event. The point guard uses his long arms and quick feet on defense, and he gets into the paint and delivers passes on target and on time.

Pierre has signed with Providence.

Top Shooter

5-10 PG Jayden Reid
Reid plays the game with a mental toughness that many just do not have. He has a quick handle and the confidence to get to his spots and pull up on a dime. The Long Island (NY) Lutheran guard was often the smallest guy on the floor, but that did not matter as he routinely went for over 20 points. He created his shots and knocked jumpers down off the catch.

Reid claims offers from Dayton, Stony Brook, Robert Morris.

Underclass MVP

6-5 SF Carl Cherenfant
This award could have gone between Cherenfant or teammate Marvel Allen. Cherenfant’s defensive prowess against Orlando (FL) Dr. Phillips gave him the nod here. The Fort Lauderdale (FL) Calvary Christian wing looked the part of a defensive stopper. He has long arms with a projectable frame and natural top-of-the-line explosion. Cherenfant played with a competitive fire that changed the complexion of the game.

Cherenfant claims offers from Virginia Tech, LSU, Memphis, South Florida, etc.

Production MVP

6-5 F Trae Clayton
Production is the name of the game for Clayton. The Dallas (TX) Kimball forward is an aggressive rebounder and a confident shooter. Clayton is an impressive offensive rebounder; he has a natural nose for the ball, leading to many second-chance points at the rim. The unsigned senior is a double-double threat each time he steps on the high school floor.

Clayton claims offers from Hampton, Illinois-Chicago, UT-Arlington, etc.
