Las Vegas, NevadaThe Border League signifies the high school basketball season is here. While there are fall leagues taking place throughout the country, the pull the Border League has, with top programs, players, and college coaches is unparalleled.

Broadcast on ESPN, the Top Flight Division of the event showcased many of the top-ranked teams in the country. Five-star names like Kwame Evans, Cameron Boozer, and Cooper Flagg were routinely shown, along with the likes of Bronny James and more.

On3s Joe Tipton was sitting baseline, and he will bring coverage from the event; however, I, like many, was able to catch the games on television. There were some players who really took advantage of the moment to raise their stock.

These three players will be in the discussion for rankings bumps during our next 2023 On3 150 update. Here are Shaw’s Stockrisers from the 2022 Border League.

Four-star PG Chris Johnson

Montverde (FL) Academy point guard Chris Johnson was in complete control of all three games he played. The 6-foot-3 guard’s aggressive nature affected play on both ends of the court, and that helped lead his team to a 63-56 win over Chandler (AZ) AZ Compass in the championship game.

Johnson is currently the No. 29 player in the 2023 On3 150. The Kansas commitment finished the championship game with 15 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals while going 6-of-12 from the field and 1-of-3 from three.

Three-star F Ashton Hardaway

This full-on breakout from Ashton Hardaway has been a long time coming. The 6-foot-8 forward is one of the premier spot shooters in the country. In his three games during the Border League Top Flight Series, the 6-foot-8 forward averaged 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.3 blocks. He shot 50 percent from the field and 37.5 percent, on 24 attempts, from three. His size and three-point shooting ability naturally stick out, but his ability to affect the game in other areas, along with his conditioning, has really grown.

Hardaway is the son of Memphis head coach Penny Hardaway. The Chatsworth (CA) Sierra Canyon senior is currently unranked by On3, something that is sure to change upon the next update. Hardaway took an official visit to San Diego last week.

Four-star SG Sebastian Mack

Sebastian Mack averaged 31 points through his three games this weekend. The 6-foot-3 guard from Henderson (NV) Coronado High showed off his scoring chops in a major way, capping his weekend off with a 36-point, 11-of-20 output on Sunday. Confidence is Mack’s main thing, but the senior also has length, handle, and touch with range.

Mack is currently No. 83 in the 2023 On3 150. The four-star has taken official visits to Florida State, in September and Oklahoma, in July.
