When you complete your journey to an Olympic gold medal, the best way to celebrate is with a call from the man with so many Super Bowl rings he needs two hands. Tom Brady gave Draymond Green a congratulatory facetime call following the US men’s basketball team’s victory in the gold medal game over France.

“You get a call from the GOAT … act normal!” said Green, in an Instagram post where he and Brady are all smiles. “Everything is golden!”

Throughout the road to victory in the gold medal game, constant doubt was cast upon Team USA. While that may sound shocking considering the immense success enjoyed by the country in recent Olympics, early losses to Nigeria, Australia and France generated a fair-share of detractors.

Draymond Green addresses the doubters

Following their victory, Green addressed the doubters in his post-game press conference.

“You turn on American sports talk TV, and you got guys like Kendrick Perkins, you know, doubting us. Somebody needs to teach these people some loyalty. How about you cheer for your country?” said Green, per Fox News. “But then when guys don’t play, ‘Oh, you need to go represent the country.’ And then you lose, hit a little bump in the road. And everybody’s, ‘Oh, everybody’s caught America.’ You are an American, too. Act like it.”

Green continued to fire back at doubters, reveling in proving the media members who doubted him and his teammates wrong.

“Do your job. You know, I do some media stuff. I understand doing your job. But, when you talk about a special group, you better be sure you’re right. And a lot of people got it wrong,” added Green. “Trust me, I’ll be posting those guys. I’ll be posting everybody I found who said something. No one holds people accountable anymore, but I will.”

Ironically, many doubted Brady’s ability to win a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so he knows the feeling. Brady has been firing back at doubters as well, even posting a video to his Instagram where he emphasized comments questioning what he had left in the tank.

Tom Brady and Draymond Green are used to being counted out

In a way, Tom Brady and Draymond Green’s careers are microcosms of proving doubters wrong.

Coming out of Michigan, Brady was drafted in the sixth round of the NFL Draft. Green was drafted in the second round of the NBA Draft out of Michigan State. Neither was projected to be much more than a backup in the league.

Alas, they’ve proven people wrong every step of the way. Brady’s won seven championships, while Green has won three championships and two Olympic gold medals. Their success speaks for themselves.

Tom Brady and Draymond Green are the poster boys for outplaying expectations. As they celebrate Green’s gold medal, maybe the former Michigan State star can return the favor next February.
